At Vertiv, the product development engineering function develops market‑leading technologies based upon voice‑of‑customer input and industry trends. As an Electrical Engineer, you will understand Vertiv’s unique approach to power distribution and switching product design to develop new products and custom solutions for our customers. You will collaborate with project management, offering management, firmware engineering, and test engineering teams around the globe to develop and launch new products. As part of the product life cycle, you will support and maintain the product design. Our ideal candidate is a highly driven, self‑motivated individual who will bring an ability to meet aggressive timelines and be comfortable working with other functional roles to gain the inputs required for their work. You should enjoy working in an engineering lab developing and testing new designs. This role takes product requirements and converts them to technical specifications for printed circuit board (PCB) and control firmware development. The role looks holistically at the full control system to ensure optimized intra‑system communication and control. This role is a mix of PCB specification, PCB schematic development, PCB layout design, and system engineering to develop new and maintain/update control platforms. The engineer will work closely with other PCB designers, firmware developers, and test associates to validate the design output through peer reviews and lab testing.

Business Unit Job Summary

The PCB/Controls System Engineer will work on Static Transfer Switch (STS) and Power Distribution (PDU) products to help develop next‑generation control and monitoring systems. This role will interact with the STS and PDU teams to understand customer requirements and create technical specifications that will be used by our hardware and firmware development teams to create a total solution. This role will be responsible for validating the individual hardware and firmware components to make sure they meet the requirements of the overall control system. This role will write test specifications and validate test data as part of the product conformance to specification process.

Responsibilities
  • Develop customized electrical hardware requirements for industrial UPS systems, Static Transfer Switches, Power Distribution, and other power equipment based on customer technical requirements and integrating cross‑functional input.
  • Engineer and specify components and devices comprising the controls and monitoring system for each project.
  • Contribute to, update, and maintain electrical drawings, maintain and create electrical three‑line and circuit level schematic/connection diagrams.
  • Identify relevant electrical standards and provide design and documentation to demonstrate compliance with standards, listings, certifications and/or customer requirements.
  • Review PCB schematics and layout drawings and validate against specifications and overall system requirements.
  • Validate and debug circuit designs and board prototypes using test equipment including power analyzers and oscilloscopes.
  • Optimize electrical designs and printed circuit assemblies for performance, manufacturability, serviceability, reliability, and cost.
  • Work with project management to track progress and task/milestone status.
  • Attend project meetings as needed to provide feedback and capture design update items.
  • Become subject matter expert for STS and PDU controls and monitoring.
  • Support product field issues when a technical deep‑dive effort is needed.
  • Resolve issues raised by PCB fabrication house/PCB vendor.
Education & Certifications

Minimum 5‑10 year B.E. Electrical Engineering (EE) or Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (ENTC) degree.

Key Requirements
  • Proficient in electrical systems design, particularly for panels.
  • Knowledge of standard Electrical Drawings and Schematic development, BOM Preparation, Wire harness Design.
  • Sound knowledge of battery‑based systems and their integration with power converters.
  • Sound knowledge of battery types and their behavior characteristics.
  • Sound knowledge of power electronic converters and semiconductor switches (static switches).
  • Strong knowledge of electrical rack wiring and associated software.
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately to deliver manufacturing drawings and associated documentation.
  • Ability to understand UL, IEC and other standards of testing and certifications.
Desirable Skills
  • Hands‑on experience in designing battery racks according to standards.
  • Exposure to electrical switchgear such as MCB, MCCB, fuses, etc., and their selection criteria.
  • Understanding of busbar design considerations.
  • Ability to quickly develop cross‑functional relationships to achieve business objectives.
  • Strong business acumen and strong problem‑solving capabilities to address challenges and seize opportunities.
  • Technical expertise to translate stakeholder needs/pain points to solutions.
  • Able to combine long‑term and short‑term goals by setting priorities.
