Job Description for Senior Engineer (Electrical) with stronger focus on EHS, Utilities, Electrical Reliability, Compliance, and Manufacturing Operations.

Job Purpose

To ensure safe, reliable, and energy efficient operation of all plant electrical systems, utilities, and related infrastructure through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, project execution, and compliance with electrical and EHS standards. The role will support uninterrupted plant operations while driving electrical reliability, energy efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
1. Electrical Reliability & Asset Management
  • Own the reliability and health of all plant electrical assets including electrical panels, motors, drives, MCCs, transformers, DG sets, power distribution systems, lighting systems and utility equipment.
  • Develop and execute preventive maintenance plans to eliminate recurring electrical failures and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Ensure all critical electrical assets have updated maintenance schedules, inspection checklists, and equipment history records.
  • Conduct periodic thermal scanning, visual inspections, tightening schedules, earthing inspections, and load balancing assessments.
  • Lead root cause analysis of major electrical breakdowns and implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure critical spares availability for business-continuity needs.
Prevention Focus
  • Identify failure risks before breakdowns occur.
  • Eliminate repeat failures through structured RCA and action tracking.
  • Shift maintenance effort from reactive to planned maintenance.
2. Utilities Management
  • Ensure reliable operation of power distribution systems, transformers, DG sets, compressors, pumps, water systems, and other utility infrastructure.
  • Monitor utility consumption trends and identify opportunities for energy conservation and cost reduction.
  • Monitor electrical loading, power factor, voltage stability, and power quality to proactively identify reliability risks, prevent equipment failures, and optimize energy performance.
  • Coordinate planned utility shutdowns with production teams to minimize business impact.
  • Support sustainability initiatives related to energy efficiency and resource optimization.
Prevention Focus
  • Anticipate utility failures before they impact production
  • Improve utility availability through inspection-based maintenance
  • Reduce energy wastage through monitoring and corrective actions.
  • Act as the custodian of electrical safety and promote a Zero Injury culture across maintenance and production operations.
  • Ensure strict implementation of Lockout-Tagout (LOTO), Permit-to-Work (PTW), equipment isolation, and safe maintenance practices for all electrical activities.
  • Conduct regular electrical safety inspections, risk assessments, and hazard identification (HIRA) to proactively eliminate unsafe conditions.
  • Ensure all electrical panels, cables, earthing systems, protection devices, and installations are maintained in a safe and compliant condition.
  • Drive closure of safety observations, unsafe conditions, and near-miss findings through timely corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Lead investigations of electrical incidents, near misses, and equipment-related safety events to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct toolbox Meetings, safety coaching, and awareness programs to strengthen electrical safety competency among employees and contractors.
  • Ensure contractor compliance with site safety requirements, PTW procedures, PPE usage, and electrical work standards.
  • Support emergency preparedness activities related to electrical failures, fire incidents, utility disruptions, and evacuation drills.
  • Maintain readiness for internal audits, statutory inspections, and customer audits through robust EHS compliance and documentation.
Prevention Focus
  • Identify and eliminate electrical hazards and unsafe conditions before incidents occur.
  • Increase reporting and timely closure of near misses, safety observations, and corrective actions.
  • Embed safety ownership, LOTO discipline, and safe work practices across maintenance, utilities, and production teams.
4. Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure compliance with statutory electrical requirements and company EHS standards.
  • Maintain all electrical records, preventive maintenance schedules, inspection reports, utility records, and audit documentation.
  • Support internal, external, food safety, and regulatory audits.
  • Ensure timely testing and certification of critical electrical safety devices and protection systems.
Prevention Focus
  • Maintain audit readiness throughout the year.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable electrical regulations, safety standards, and statutory inspections.
  • Drive initiatives to improve machine uptime, reliability, energy efficiency, energy efficient upgrade and maintenance effectiveness.
  • Support automation and electrical improvement projects.
  • Recommend upgrades and modernization of electrical infrastructure where required.
  • Contribute to Kaizen, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Requirements & Preferred Skills
Education
  • Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering.
Experience
  • 4–6 years of experience in FMCG, Food Processing, Manufacturing, or Process Industries.
  • Experience in managing plant electrical systems and utilities in a continuous production environment.
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, power distribution, motors, drives, MCCs, transformers, DG sets, and utility equipment
  • Understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance practices
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards, statutory compliance, LOTO, and permit systems
  • Familiarity with energy management and utility optimization practices.
  • Ability to read electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and control schematics.
  • Exposure to PLCs, VFDs, and industrial automation systems will be an added advantage.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive and hands-on approach to maintenance activities.
  • Good planning, coordination, and execution capabilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle breakdown situations effectively.
