Job summary

Zinnia is a leading technology platform in life and annuities. The Specialist, Business Finops will provide financial planning, analysis and reporting for Corporate, a business, or a P&L.

You will reconcile records, manage tax reporting, and collaborate across teams to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance. Role requires 3+ years in life insurance finance, strong GL/AR/AP experience, and hands-on tax withholding knowledge for US payroll.

Qualifications

• Graduation in any stream, Commerce preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in life insurance finance and accounting.
• Strong knowledge of GL, reconciliations, AP, AR and tax reporting.
• Hands-on with financial processes and US tax withholding for employees.

Responsibilities

• Reconcile financial records and remittances; balance accounts.
• Manage daily withholding balancing and tax reporting compliantly.
• Oversee tax reporting for annuity products and 1099-R filings.
• Execute daily, monthly, quarterly tax treatment activities.
• Collaborate with actuarial, finance, and legal teams for accuracy.

WHO YOU ARE

The Specialist, Business Finops will play a crucial role and will be responsible for providing financial planning, analysis and reporting for Corporate, a business, or a P&L within a business. Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services. Stays informed of industry trends that may influence work.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Reconciling financial records: Reconcile payments as indicated on remittance documents and reconcile accounts.
• Managing Tax reporting process: Manage daily withholding balancing and ensure tax recs are balanced.

Tax Reporting & Compliance

• Ensure accurate and timely tax reporting for annuity products including policyholder premiums, annuity payouts, interest and investment income, and return of principal.
• Oversee preparation and review of tax documents and filings as per IRS and regulatory standards (e.g., 1099-R).

Tax Treatment Execution

• Execute daily, monthly, and quarterly activities to ensure proper tax treatment of annuity distributions.
• Collaborate with actuarial, finance, and legal teams to ensure consistency and accuracy in tax calculations.

Death Benefits & Beneficiary Taxation

• Address and resolve issues related to the taxability of death benefits.
• Ensure proper tax reporting for beneficiaries and align reporting processes with current tax laws and policy guidelines.

Issue Resolution & Process Improvement

• Identify and resolve discrepancies or issues in tax treatment and reporting.
• Drive process improvements and system enhancements to improve accuracy and efficiency.

Risk Management & Controls

• Ensure adherence to internal controls and regulatory compliance.

• Maintaining documentation: Maintain proper documentation and keep procedures up to date.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

• Graduation in any stream, Commerce Graduate preferred.
• 3+ year of working experience (Life insurance domain) that required a focus on quality including attention to details, accuracy, and accountability for your work product.
• In depth knowledge of overall accounting functions. Should have experience in General Ledger Accounting Function, reconciliations, AP, AR
• Should have working experience in setting up the federal, state and local tax withholding amount of the employees, involving compliance to US federal and state tax laws
• Ability to develop good understanding of Client Finance processes, policies and systems and will require being hands-on with the process while resolving key process and customer issues
• Familiar with US accounting functions (billings, payments, and receivables) and have prior experience of working for these US accounting functions.
• Working knowledge of accounting package ERP, People Soft or alike.
