JobTitle: Special Educator

Location: Hanspura, Ahmedabad

Job Purpose

The Special Educator is responsible for identifying, assessing, and supporting students with diverse learning needs by providing individualized educational interventions, collaborating with teachers and parents, and promoting an inclusive learning environment. The role ensures that every child receives equitable access to quality education in accordance with CBSE guidelines and inclusive education practices.

Key Responsibilities

1. Student Assessment & Support

  • Identify students with learning difficulties, developmental delays, or special educational needs.
  • Conduct screening and educational assessments.
  • Prepare Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) based on students' strengths and needs.
  • Monitor student progress and modify intervention plans accordingly.
  • Maintain detailed records and documentation of student performance.

2. Individual & Small Group Intervention

  • Conduct remedial and individualized sessions.
  • Support students with:
    • Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD)
    • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
    • ADHD
    • Intellectual Disabilities
    • Speech and Language-related learning challenges
    • Behavioural and Emotional Needs
  • Develop customized teaching-learning materials.

3. Inclusive Classroom Support

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt lesson plans and teaching strategies.
  • Recommend classroom accommodations and curriculum modifications.
  • Assist teachers in implementing inclusive education practices.
  • Support differentiated instruction and competency-based learning.

4. Parent Collaboration

  • Conduct parent counselling and awareness sessions.
  • Share regular progress reports.
  • Guide parents regarding home-based support strategies.
  • Participate in parent-teacher meetings.

5. Teacher Support & Capacity Building

  • Train teachers on inclusive classroom practices.
  • Conduct workshops on classroom management and learning disabilities.
  • Assist teachers in identifying early signs of learning difficulties.

6. Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain confidential student records.
  • Prepare assessment reports and intervention plans.
  • Ensure documentation required for examination accommodations and school records.
  • Support compliance with CBSE guidelines for Children with Special Needs (CWSN).

7. Collaboration

  • Work closely with:
    • School Counsellor
    • Principal
    • Academic Coordinators
    • Class Teachers
    • External therapists and psychologists (where applicable)

8. Professional Development

  • Stay updated with the latest special education methodologies.
  • Participate in workshops, seminars, and CBSE/RCI training programs.
  • Contribute to the school's inclusive education initiatives.
Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor's Degree in any discipline.
  • B.Ed. in Special Education (recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India) or
  • Diploma in Special Education (RCI recognized), as applicable to the role.
  • Valid RCI Registration.

Preferred

  • Master's Degree in Special Education / Psychology / Education.
  • Experience in an inclusive or CBSE school.
Experience
  • 25 years of experience as a Special Educator in a school.
  • Experience working with inclusive classrooms and multidisciplinary teams is preferred.
