Job summary

PierSight is seeking a Spacecraft Technical Assistant in Gujarat, India, to support satellite hardware assembly and calibration tasks. You will work with 3D CAD models, perform jig work, and ensure parts compatibility and traceability of fasteners.

The role requires 5+ years of experience as a fitter/tradesman in space hardware, plus an ITI Mechanical Fitter certificate. Field calibration duties for SAR experiments may be required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as fitter/tradesman in space hardware or satellite.
• Certificate in Mechanical Fitter from ITI.
• Ability to work on calibration exercises for SAR/drone-SAR.

Responsibilities

• Integrate satellite structure and sub-assemblies per drawings and 3D CAD.
• Handle, containerise and de-containerise satellite hardware.
• Own FM subsystem and PCB jig assemblies, waveguide routings and alignments.
• Manage stock of fasteners, tools, drill bits, torque wrenches.
• Check compatibility of parts and manage proof assemblies.
• Maintain calibration certificates and traceability of fasteners with test certs.
• Follow QA and Mechanical engineer instructions.
• Open to field calibration for SAR and drone-SAR experiments.
• Perform fitting tasks (filing, drilling, tapping, etc.) with precision.

Spacecraft Technical Assistant at PierSight

Role: Spacecraft Technical Assistant

Experience Requirements: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the integration of satellite structure and sub-assemblies as per approved drawings and 3D CAD model of the satellite.
• Responsible for handling, containerisation, de‑containerisation of satellite.
• Take ownership of FM subsystem assembly, jig assembly of PCBs, Waveguide routings and alignments, feed and reflector alignment correction etc required for Satellite and ground testing.
• Management and stock maintenance of fasteners, tools drill bits, Torque wrenches etc and give early alarm before stock is consumed.
• Responsible for checking compatibility of all parts in assembly, having multiple parts as proof assembly.
• Maintain calibration certificates of torque wrenches and tractability of fasteners with test certificates.
• Work as per QA and Mechanical engineer’s instructions and guidance.
• Open to work in field for calibration exercise of SAR and drone‑SAR experiments.
• Certificate in Mechanical Fitter course from recognized ITI.
• 5+ years of professional experience as Fitter/Tradesman in Space hardware / Payload / Satellite.

Preferred Skill and Experience

• Should have experience of understanding complicated engineering drawing of packages and other items required for the assembly Satellite or payload parts.
• Strong understanding and application of GD&T.
• Expert in all fitting activities like filing, cutting, drilling, tapping helicoil inserting/ removing, torquing etc. and assembling of etc.
• Expert in electronic package level all activities (FM and non‑FM).
• Handling the FM Hardware with EOT Crane.
• Containerization and De‑Containerization of Payload or Satellite.
