Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a senior Java-focused engineer to lead the design, development, and maintenance of scalable Java-based applications. You will mentor teams and collaborate with product managers to define technical solutions, while driving performance, security, and reliability improvements.

Applicants should have 7+ years of software development experience with Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, and Kafka, along with strong leadership and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of software development experience with strong expertise in Java, Spring boot, Microservices & Kafka.
• Experience leading engineering teams or serving in a technical lead role.
• Solid knowledge of object-oriented design, APIs, databases, and cloud-based systems.
• Proven excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of scalable Java-based applications
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and development teams
• Collaborate with product managers, architects, and stakeholders to define technical solutions
• Ensure code quality through reviews, testing, and adherence to best practices
• Drive system performance, security, and reliability improvements
• Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). AI User Responsibilities: Leverage enterprise-approved AI tools to enhance productivity and innovation by streamlining workflows and automating repetitive tasks. Evaluate emerging trends to drive continuous improvement and strategic innovation
