Advertisement for the position of Software Engineer in a Sponsored Project

Applications are invited from Indian nationals for the temporary position of SOFTWARE ENGINEER to work on the sponsored research / consultancy project titled “Developing External Circulation and Multimodal Integration Plans for Varanasi Ropeway Project” (Project Ref. No. 2026RPMS00001989), funded by Paradip Port Road Company Limited (PPRCL), reporting to Dr. Agnivesh P, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT (BHU) Varanasi. The position details are outlined below.

Name of the Position Software Engineer

Number of Openings One (01)

Duration Co-terminus with the project (up to its completion on 13 March 2027). Initial appointment for an initial term, extendable based on satisfactoryperformance and continuation of the project.

Salary / Emoluments Rs. 40,000/- per month (consolidated). TDS as per institute norms.

Essential Qualification B.Tech / B.E. in Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) or Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), from a recognised University/ Institute, with a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent CGPA).

Desirable (an advantage, not mandatory)

• Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript / TypeScript, C / C++; web / full-stack development
• Experience with data processing, databases (PostgreSQL / PostGIS) and APIs
• Familiarity with GIS (QGIS / ArcGIS), spatial data, and visualisation libraries (Plotly, D3, Leaflet)
• Exposure to traffic / pedestrian simulation tools (PTV Vissim,SUMO) or mobility / transport data
• Ability to build clean, well-documented tools and to work independently in a research team

Age Limit Preferably below 28 years (relaxable for experienced / exceptional candidates as per institute norms).

Tenure & Conditions of Engagement

The position is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project; it does not confer any right or claim to regular employment at IIT (BHU).

The appointment is terminable with one month’s notice on either side, and does not confer any right to extension or re-appointment.

The selected candidate will be expected to join immediately.

Remuneration is consolidated and taxable as per norms. The position is governed by the terms of the sponsored project and IIT (BHU) norms.
