Job summary

Job description

Job Summary

As a BMC (Baseboard Management Controller) Engineer you will work as part of a Research and Development team responsible for developing, testing, and debugging firmware and embedded system software that interface with NetApp storage operating systems. The Firmware R&D team focuses on competitive market and customer requirements, supportability, technology advances, product quality, product cost, and time‑to‑market. Firmware engineers work on enhancements to existing products as well as new product development, including functional testing of developed features.

This position requires an individual who is creative, a quick learner, driven to produce results, and demonstrates the ability to lead small teams or projects.

Job Requirements
  • Solid programming skills in C/C++
  • Strong understanding of computer architecture concepts, data structures, and standard programming practices
  • Debugging skills on firmware or software issues in a Linux environment
  • In‑depth knowledge of Linux programming, Kernel internals, drivers, U‑boot, system calls, shared libraries, and makefiles
  • Experience with Linux networking (firewalls, VLANs, SSH) is a plus
  • Experience with security (certificates, key authentication) is a plus
  • Experience with IPMI, KCS, I2C, SMBUS, PMBUS, SPI, UART, Flash technologies (eMMC, SPI), LDAP, Redfish, REST API is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with other engineers and senior leaders inside and outside the team
  • Ability to estimate work completion for project planning
  • Ability to drive design and implementation of project features
  • Ability to perform functional testing of developed features
  • Requires limited supervision and direction; can operate and drive results independently
  • Ability to convey information to stakeholders at many levels
Education
  • Minimum 5–8 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, or an equivalent master's degree or experience
  • Demonstrated ability to complete multiple moderately complex technical tasks successfully
  • Proven record of meeting tight deadlines without sacrificing quality
