Job Title: SDE - Java Backend Engineer Authentication & SSO

About the Role

We are looking for a Java Backend Engineer with 1 - 5 years of experience and strong knowledge of authentication, Single Sign-On (SSO), identity protocols, AWS, and Data Structures & Algorithms (DSA).

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of authentication and authorization workflows and hands-on exposure to protocols such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), SSO Federation, JWT/JWKS validation, and PKCE. The role involves building secure, scalable backend services and working closely with engineering and security teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Java.
• Implement and integrate secure authentication and authorization mechanisms.
• Develop and support Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions across applications and services.
• Work with identity and authentication protocols including OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect (OIDC).
• Implement and troubleshoot SSO Federation and identity provider integrations.
• Work with JWT/JWKS validation, token verification, claims, signing algorithms, and key rotation concepts.
• Implement and understand PKCE flows for secure authentication.
• Integrate authentication services with cloud-based applications and AWS infrastructure.
• Analyze authentication and login flows, troubleshoot security issues, and identify root causes.
• Develop secure, clean, maintainable, and testable Java code.
• Apply strong Data Structures & Algorithms (DSA) and problem-solving skills to backend engineering challenges.
• Collaborate with security, product, DevOps, and engineering teams to deliver reliable solutions.
• Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, testing, and production support.

Required Skills

Java & Backend Development

• 1 - 5 years of professional experience in Java development.
• Strong understanding of Core Java, OOP, Collections, Exception Handling, and multithreading/concurrency.
• Good knowledge of backend development and RESTful APIs.
• Strong understanding of Data Structures & Algorithms (DSA).
• Experience writing clean, scalable, and maintainable code.

Authentication & SSO

Strong understanding of the authentication and Single Sign-On login process, including:

• Authentication vs. authorization concepts
• OAuth 2.0
• OpenID Connect (OIDC)
• SSO Federation
• JWT and JWKS validation
• PKCE
• Access tokens, ID tokens, refresh tokens, and claims
• Token validation and signature verification
• Identity Provider (IdP) and Service Provider (SP) concepts
• Authentication flows and session/token management
• Secure handling of credentials, tokens, and user identity information

AWS

• Hands-on experience or good working knowledge of AWS services.
• Understanding of deploying and running backend applications on AWS.
• Exposure to services such as EC2, S3, IAM, Lambda, API Gateway, CloudWatch, or equivalent AWS services is desirable.

Good to Have

• Experience with identity platforms such as Okta, Auth0, Microsoft Entra ID/Azure AD, Keycloak, or similar.
• Knowledge of Spring Boot and Spring Security.
• Experience with microservices and REST APIs.
• Understanding of security best practices and common application security vulnerabilities.
• Exposure to Docker, CI/CD, Kubernetes, or cloud-native development.
• Familiarity with SAML and other federation protocols.
• Experience troubleshooting authentication issues in distributed systems.
