Job summary

Zepto Dark Store / Fulfillment Facility is seeking an RME Manager to lead reliability and facility operations across pan-India sites. You will drive maintenance of PTL hardware and automation, oversee safe and efficient 5S housekeeping, and manage vendor performance and spares inventory.

You will coordinate energy, water, and safety programs, ensuring minimal downtime and on-time grocery delivery targets.

Qualifications

• Degree / Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (any other engineering stream evaluated based on experience).
• 6–8 years of experience in Reliability Maintenance Engineering or Facility Management with ecommerce/quick commerce background a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead maintenance of PTL systems, NE O automation, conveyors, sensors, and PLCs.
• Oversee 52-week Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) routines for all assets.
• Manage soft services, housekeeping, 5S implementation, and service delivery audits.
• Direct 3rd-party FM agencies, vendor KPI/SLA tracking, and invoice handling.
• Oversee HK consumables, stationery, and critical spares inventory; ensure cost control.

2. Purpose of the Role

The RME Manager at Zepto owns the strategic leadership and operational execution of all technical maintenance, facility operations, soft services, vendor management, and utility support at the assigned Zepto Dark Store / Fulfillment Facility. The primary objective is to guarantee maximum equipment uptime (≥ 99.5%), flawless PTL (Pick-to-Light) and NEO automation performance, zero operational disruption, strict 5S housekeeping standards, seamless vendor management, complete safety & FSSAI statutory compliance, and optimal cost management — enabling Zepto to consistently deliver grocery orders within 10 minutes.

3. Key Result Areas (KRAs) & Core Responsibilities

A. Technical PTL & NEO Systems Maintenance

• Lead maintenance and troubleshooting of Pick-to-Light (PTL) hardware, display modules, controllers, sensor networks, and communication buses to ensure 100% picking efficiency.
• Oversee NEO systems, automated sorting systems, conveyors, scanners, work stations, labeling machines, and PLC-based automated material handling equipment.
• Establish and execute 52-week Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) routines for all technical assets, minimizing unscheduled downtime.
• Perform fast-response breakdown maintenance and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for equipment failures to prevent repeat occurrences.

B. Soft Services & Housekeeping (HK) Management

• Manage end-to-end soft services, housekeeping operations, deep cleaning schedules, and sanitation across dark store storage, picking bays, and administrative zones.
• Implement and strictly enforce 5S workplace standards (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) for a clean, organized, and hyper-efficient operational environment.
• Oversee housekeeping supervisors and janitorial manpower planning, shift rosters, performance grooming, and service delivery audit scores.

C. FM Agency Management & Vendor SLA Monitoring

• Direct and manage 3rd-party Facility Management (FM) agencies, technical service providers, and specialized maintenance contractors.
• Formulate, track, and review Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for all outsourced facility agencies on a monthly basis.
• Conduct detailed verification of vendor attendance sign-offs, service reports, invoice calculations, and ensure timely agreement renewals and invoice clearances.

D. HK Consumables & Stationery Procurement & Inventory

• Manage procurement, inventory monitoring, stock register tracking, and optimal reorder levels for Housekeeping (HK) consumables and cleaning chemicals.
• Handle complete ordering, distribution, and inventory management for Dark Store Stationery items, office supplies, and operational tags.
• Ensure critical spare parts inventory for technical equipment (PTL displays, sensors, electrical relays, breakers) is maintained at optimum reorder levels to prevent maintenance delays.

E. Energy & Diesel Procurement & DG Set Management

• Manage Diesel Generator (DG) set operations, daily fuel monitoring, quality testing, vendor ordering, and fuel stock accounting for 24/7 power backup.
• Monitor daily raw water, electricity, DG run hours, and STP/WTP records to optimize utility consumption and reduce operational carbon footprint.
• Coordinate with state electricity boards, landlord engineering teams, and utility service providers to maintain uninterrupted power and utility supply.

F. Pantry Management (Tea, Snacks & Refreshments)

• Oversee pantry management operations, vendor ordering, stock management, and quality control for Tea, Coffee, Snacks, and refreshments for dark store personnel.
• Maintain hygienic pantry conditions, service standards, vending machine upkeep, and positive employee workplace experience.

G. Drinking Water Management & Vendor Operations

• Manage vendor ordering, supply chain scheduling, and daily stock accounting for packaged drinking water, water jars, and RO purification systems.
• Ensure daily sanitization of water dispensers, clean drinking water availability across all shifts, and routine water quality lab testing.

H. Pest Control Vendor Management & FSSAI Compliance

• Manage pest control vendor contracts, routine chemical spraying, rodent baiting, fly catchers, and pest audit documentation.
• Ensure strict compliance with FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) food safety guidelines, HACCP, hygiene standards, and statutory audit readiness for food storage areas.

I. Transport & Fleet Logistics Management Support

• Supervise site transport management operations, rider parking arrangements, fleet vehicle movement, and employee shuttle coordination where applicable.
• Ensure smooth traffic flow in dark store yard areas, rider waiting lounge maintenance, safety compliance for delivery vehicles, and transport vendor SLA tracking.

J. Safety, Statutory Compliance, Budgeting & Reporting

• Implement Zepto Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) policies, Work Permit Systems (Height work, Hot work, Electrical safety), and Emergency Response Plans.
• Maintain complete statutory compliance trackers (Factories Act, PCB, Fire NOC, Pressure Vessels, Calibration, Weights & Measures).
• Prepare annual OPEX/CAPEX budgets, monitor spend against targets, and submit Daily Management Reports (DMR) and Monthly Management Reports (MMR).

4. Candidate Profile, Qualification & Competency Requirements

CRITICAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Educational Qualification: Degree / Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. (Candidates with degrees in other engineering streams will be evaluated based on experience).

Minimum Experience: 6 to 8 years of proven experience in Reliability Maintenance Engineering, Facility Management, or MEP Operations.

Industry Advantage: Prior experience in E-commerce, Quick Commerce, FMCG Warehousing, Automated Logistics Hubs, or High-Speed Fulfillment Centers is a strong added advantage.

Key Technical & Functional Competencies:

• Strong technical expertise in PTL systems, NEO automation, conveyors, PLCs, HT/LT power panels, DG sets, HVAC, Fire Fighting, and MEP infrastructure.
• Proficiency in vendor contract administration, SLA/KPI formulation, and managing 3rd-party FM agency manpower.
• Deep understanding of 5S workplace methodology, housekeeping protocols, pest control standards, and FSSAI food safety regulations.
• Proven experience in inventory management for HK consumables, stationery, critical technical spares, and diesel procurement.
• Robust analytical, budgeting, and cost-control skills; capability to interpret operational metrics and lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
• Excellent leadership, conflict resolution, vendor negotiation, and communication skills (verbal and written).
• Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), AutoCAD, and CMMS / ERP software.
