Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

Simulation Engineer - CFD (Aerodynamic )

Expertise in CFD and External & Internal Aero (Subsonic to HypersonicRegime). The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of gasdynamics and shock interactions, aerodynamics, and possess excellentproblem solving skills to deliver high-quality simulations for variousprojects. Function as a solution specialist in the field of ComputationalFluidDynamics using simulation tools such as ANSYS FLUENT, Chemkin orStar CCM+, ANSYS CFX.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform aerodynamic simulations across subsonic, transonic,supersonic, and hypersonic regimes using CFD tools (e.g., Ansys Fluent)to evaluate external airframe and internal duct/propulsion flowperformance.
  • Analyze complex flow phenomena such as shock formation, expansionwaves, separation, and Shockwave-Boundary Layer Interaction, ensuringaccurate prediction of pressure, temperature, and heat flux distributions.
  • Set up and execute CFD models for external flows (wings, fuselage,control surfaces) and internal flows (intakes, nozzles, ducts), applyingappropriate boundary conditions, compressibility effects, and gasdynamic principles.
  • Apply advanced turbulence models — RANS, LES, DES, or hybridmethods — and justify their selection based on flow regime, Reynoldsnumber,and accuracy requirements.
  • Generate high-quality meshes for complex geometries using structured,unstructured, or hybrid approaches, ensuring proper near-wallresolution (yp control) and grid independence for reliable aerodynamicpredictions.
  • Conduct 6DOF dynamic simulations using dynamic and overset meshesto study vehicle motion, stability, and control behaviour during free-flightor moving-bodyscenarios.
  • Post-process and analyse CFD results, extracting aerodynamiccoefficients (Cl, Cd, Cm), flow visualization plots (Mach contours, Cpdistributions), and force/moment data for design evaluation andoptimization.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (structures, thermal, propulsion)by providing aerodynamic loads, surface pressures, and heat flux datafor coupled simulations and integrated performance analysis.
  • Automate workflows and data analysis using Python or scripting tools formesh generation, solver execution, and result processing to improveefficiency and repeatability.
  • Document and communicate findings through detailed technical reports,validation studies, and design recommendations to support airframe,propulsion, and system-level development efforts
Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Perform aerodynamic simulations across subsonic tohypersonic flow regimes.
  • Analyze external flows over airframes and internal flowsthrough ducts, intakes, and propulsion systems.
  • Knowledge of Shockwave Boundary Layer Interaction andGas Dynamics.
  • Experience with turbulence modeling (RANS, LES, DES)and mesh generation for complex geometries.
  • Perform 6DOF Simulations with Dynamic and OversetMesh.
  • Knowledge of External & Internal Aero (Subsonic toHypersonic Regime) Modelling– mandatory.
  • Strong fundamentals in CFD with Ansys Chemkinknowledge- Preferred.
  • Aerospace (or) Mechanical with strong knowledge onCombustion simulations.
  • Knowledge of gas dynamics and shock interactionsmandatory
  • Knowledge of external aerodynamics– mandatory
  • Basic knowledge of MATLAB for post-processing.
