Job summary

CADFEM APAC invites a CFD expert in Hyderabad to drive high-fidelity simulations for external airframes and internal duct flows. You will leverage ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+, and CFX to predict pressure, temperature and heat flux while ensuring mesh quality and grid convergence.

Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams is essential for performance optimization. The role emphasizes advanced turbulence modeling, overset/dynamic meshing, and automation through Python for repeatable workflows.

Qualifications

  • Expertise in CFD for subsonic to hypersonic regimes and aero applications.
  • Deep understanding of gas dynamics and shock interactions.
  • Experience with ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+, and ANSYS CFX/Chemkin.
  • Set up/exe CFD models for external and internal flows with proper BCs and compressibility.
  • Knowledge of turbulence models (RANS/LES/DES) and mesh generation for complex geometries.

Responsibilities

  • Perform aerodynamic simulations across subsonic to hypersonic regimes using CFD tools.
  • Analyze shock formation, expansion waves, separation, and shock-boundary layer interactions.
  • Set up external and internal flow CFD models with appropriate BCs and compressibility effects.
  • Apply advanced turbulence models and justify selections based on flow regime and accuracy.
  • Generate high-quality meshes with proper near-wall resolution and grid independence.
  • Conduct 6DOF dynamic simulations with dynamic/overset meshes.
  • Post-process results to extract Cl, Cd, Cm and pressure/heat flux data.
  • Collaborate with structures, thermal and propulsion teams for integrated analysis.
  • Automate workflows using Python for mesh generation, solver runs and post-processing.
  • Document findings with reports and design recommendations.

Expertise in CFD and External & Internal Aero (Subsonic to Hypersonic Regime). The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of gas dynamics and shock interactions, aerodynamics, and possess excellent problem solving skills to deliver high-quality simulations for various projects. Function as a solution specialist in the field of Computational Fluid Dynamics using simulation tools such as ANSYS FLUENT, Chemkin or Star CCM+, ANSYS CFX.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of gas dynamics and shock interactions, aerodynamics, and possess excellent problem solving skills to deliver high-quality simulations for various projects. Function as a solution specialist in the field of Computational Fluid Dynamics using simulation tools such as ANSYS FLUENT, Chemkin or Star CCM+, ANSYS CFX.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform aerodynamic simulations across subsonic, transonic, supersonic, and hypersonic regimes using CFD tools (e.g., Ansys Fluent) to evaluate external airframe and internal duct/propulsion flow performance.
  • Analyze complex flow phenomena such as shock formation, expansion waves, separation, and Shockwave–Boundary Layer Interaction, ensuring accurate prediction of pressure, temperature, and heat flux distributions.
  • Set up and execute CFD models for external flows (wings, fuselage, control surfaces) and internal flows (intakes, nozzles, ducts), applying appropriate boundary conditions, compressibility effects, and gas dynamic principles.
  • Apply advanced turbulence models — RANS, LES, DES, or hybrid methods — and justify their selection based on flow regime, Reynolds number,and accuracy requirements.
  • Generate high-quality meshes for complex geometries using structured, unstructured, or hybrid approaches, ensuring proper near-wall resolution (y⁺ control) and grid independence for reliable aerodynamic predictions.
  • Conduct 6DOF dynamic simulations using dynamic and overset meshes to study vehicle motion, stability, and control behaviour during free-flight or moving-bodyscenarios.
  • Post-process and analyse CFD results, extracting aerodynamic coefficients (Cl, Cd, Cm), flow visualization plots (Mach contours, Cp distributions), and force/moment data for design evaluation and optimization.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (structures, thermal, propulsion) by providing aerodynamic loads, surface pressures, and heat flux data for coupled simulations and integrated performance analysis.
  • Automate workflows and data analysis using Python or scripting tools for mesh generation, solver execution, and result processing to improve efficiency and repeatability.
  • Document and communicate findings through detailed technical reports, validation studies, and design recommendations to support airframe, propulsion, and system-level development efforts
Requirements
Required Skills
  • Perform aerodynamic simulations across subsonic to hypersonic flow regimes.
  • Analyze external flows over airframes and internal flows through ducts, intakes, and propulsion systems.
  • Knowledge of Shockwave Boundary Layer Interaction and Gas Dynamics.
  • Experience with turbulence modeling (RANS, LES, DES) and mesh generation for complex geometries.
  • Perform 6DOF Simulations with Dynamic and Overset Mesh.
  • Knowledge of External & Internal Aero (Subsonic to Hypersonic Regime) Modelling– mandatory.
  • Strong fundamentals in CFD with Ansys Chemkin knowledge- Preferred.
  • Aerospace (or) Mechanical with strong knowledge on Combustion simulations.
  • Knowledge of gas dynamics and shock interactions mandatory
  • Knowledge of external aerodynamics– mandatory
  • Basic knowledge of MATLAB for post-processing.

  • Pressure based and density-based solver’s applicability along with pros & cons.
  • Low subsonic to hyper-sonic flows. Most of the work is in 0.9 to 5 Mach
  • Adaptive meshing o Job submission on cluster(Pbs scripts) & RSM
  • TUI journal utilization for automation of work
  • Parametric optimization through OptiSLang. Parameterization through space claim and fluent for simultaneous design point runs.
  • Experience with ANSYS FLUENT/ STAR CCM+ or other commercial CFD software.
  • Sound background in Combustion, Computational Fluid Dynamics [CFD], Aerodynamics, & Aerothermodynamics, Scramjet Engine CFD Modelling, Propulsion, Liquid Propellant Rocket Engine Physics.
  • Engaging personality, engineering curiosity and willingness for continuous learning.
  • Possesses a sense of urgency, strong organizational and follow up skills.
