Job summary

Jindal Steel Limited seeks a Shift In charge DRI Kiln Operations to drive operational excellence in rotary kiln operations, ensuring thermal stability, optimizing material flows, and coordinating across raw material handling, byproduct processing, and downstream steelmaking units while maintaining safety and quality standards.

The role emphasizes monitoring kiln parameters, managing feed and air settings, dispatch of DRI, and leading safety during shutdowns and refractory activities.

Qualifications

• BE/BTech or Diploma in Metallurgy, Chemical, or Mechanical Eng. (relevant technical degree).
• 5–15 years of direct shift-handling experience in Rotary Kiln DRI/Sponge Iron plants.
• Strong knowledge of coal-based direct reduction kinetics and kiln operation fundamentals.
• Experience with accretion control, shell air blower balancing, and bed temperature management.
• Familiarity with refractory lining installation, shutdown planning, and drying schedules.
• Ability to lead teams, make quick decisions under high-temperature conditions, and coordinate across departments.

Responsibilities

• Monitor kiln temperature profile and coal injection.
• Control kiln RPM, feed rate, and air settings.
• Maintain day bin stock levels.
• RCA for breakdowns and quality issues.
• Coordinate with RMHS and Stores.
• Manage DRI dispatch to BF & SMS.

Position Title: Shift In charge DRI Kiln Operations

Department: Direct Reduced Iron (DRI)

Job Purpose

To drive operational excellence, ensure thermal and mechanical stability of rotary kilns, manage material flows, and maintain seamless coordination across raw material handling, byproduct processing, and downstream steelmaking units while adhering to safety and quality standards.

1. Operational

Monitor kiln temperature profile and coal injection

Control kiln RPM, feed rate, air settings

Monitor accretion build up and take preventive action

Maintain day bin stock levels

RCA for breakdown and quality issues

Coordinate with RMHS and Stores

Manage DRI dispatch to BF & SMS

By-product handling (char, dolochar)

Ensure safety during shutdown and refractory jobs

Candidate Profile & Qualifications

• Education: B.E. / B.Tech or Diploma in Metallurgy, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering.

• Experience: 515 years of direct shift-handling experience in Rotary Kiln DRI / Sponge Iron plants.

• Technical Skills:
  • In-depth understanding of coal-based direct reduction kinetics.
  • Practical knowledge of shell air blower balancing, bed temperature profile management, and accretion control.
  • Strong familiarity with refractory lining installation, drying schedules, and shutdown management.

• Soft Skills: Quick decision-making under high-temperature emergency conditions, team leadership, cross-departmental coordination, and problem-solving capability.
