Job summary

Reliance Infrastructure seeks a skilled Shift Engineer to manage production during shifts, supervise crew, and assist the shift superintendent in operations and maintenance of plant equipment. You will help meet production targets while upholding safety and quality standards.

The role requires 3–7 years of site experience in chemical plant operations, with strong knowledge of unit operations, plant processes, and safety practices.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering/Technology required.
• 3–7 years experience as shift engineer in site operations; at least 2 years in a panel/executive role.
• Strong knowledge of unit operations and plant processes; safety standards essential.
• Problem solving, analytical thinking and planning/decision making required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in formulation of shift operation plans and ensure day-to-day execution.
• Implement new initiatives/projects as per policies for shift operations.
• Provide inputs for site process improvements and alignment with best practices.
• Perform equipment monitoring and predictive maintenance; use OMPro for data analysis.
• Coordinate with maintenance teams for timely execution and safe handover of equipment.
• Supervise shutdowns and startups, preserve equipment during extended outages; ensure safe operations.
• Identify root causes of failures and recommend effective countermeasures to prevent recurrences.
• Maintain shift logs documenting operations and incidents with consistent format.
• Support plant upsets when needed and coordinate with other plants to manage raw material SOCs.
• Coordinate with maintenance for job planning/execution; differentiate between regular, one-time, and shutdown jobs.
• Understand lubrication, seal systems, and valve statuses relevant to site equipment.
• Adhere to safety procedures, conduct toolbox talks, and manage risk assessments.

Job description

• Purpose of the Role - To manage smooth operations of production activities during shifts, by supervising shift crew and supporting the shift superintendent in performing operations and maintenance of the equipment's, in order to ensure that production targets are met, while maintaining safety and quality standards

• Responsibilities -
• Policies, Processes and Procedures -

- Assist in formulation of shift operation's plan and ensure day-to-day execution in line with function standards & regulations

- Implement new initiatives/ projects as per established policies to meet future requirements of shift operations

- Provide inputs for improvements in site processes and specifications to ensure alignment with best practices

• Operations & Maintenance -

- Perform equipment monitoring, predictive maintenance, reporting and data analysis to optimize site's performance through effective use of OMPro tool

- Conduct routine inspections of equipment's and monitor process parameters to identify any issues; Coordinate with relevant teams to expedite maintenance activities and safe HOTO of equipment

- Supervise safe and orderly shutdown, efficient start up of site operations and proper preservation of equipment's and facilities during extended shutdown

- Take proactive measures to identify and mitigate potential risks and hazards in order to minimize emergency shutdown and ensure operations are conducted safely and efficiently

- Identify root cause for failures and recommend trouble shooting measures; Provide recommendations that prevent repetitive failures

- Implement PIOs and Support in conducting sample and improvement trials during the shifts to ensure the activities are performed seamlessly

- Maintain shift logs to record and document all relevant details about the site operations in a consistent format

- Able to support PO during plant upsets

- Should know the rotary machines seal system and also can understand importance of level, pressure of the seal pot.

- should be able to understand the lubrication system of the compressors and understands the importance of temp, pr, flow etc of the system

- should know the LO/LC valves status

- should know the field location the various instruments.

- should be able to communicate with other plants in order to maintain the SOCs of the raw materials.

- Should be able to co-ordinate with maintenance dept for job planning/execution.

- Should be able to differentiate between regular, one time and shut down jobs

• Safety & Risk Assessment -

- Perform regular risk assessment during hand over, take over and process jobs and also conduct tool box talk prior to job execution to reinforce safe work practices

- Supervise implementation of safety procedures and processes to ensure safe work environment for all personnel and prevent accidents and injuries

- Ensure identification (through Root Cause Analysis), documentation and reporting of near miss incidents to identify trends and prevent future occurrence of similar incidents

- Drive compliance to work permit system and ensure site operations are carried out safely in accordance with relevant regulations and guidelines

- Should be able to under stand the incident classification system ( API754) and ensure entries in the portal as and when required.

Education Requirement :

• Necessary: Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering / Technology

Experience Requirement :

• Necessary: 3-7 years of experience as shift engineer in site operations, with at least 2 years of experience working a panel executive
