Job summary

Vaighai Chemical Industries Limited in Karaikal invites applications for a Shift Engineer (Electrical) to operate and maintain electrical systems in our power plant.

The role covers monitoring electrical equipment, attending breakdowns, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring safety, with night shifts and emergency support.

Diploma/B.E. in Electrical Engineering and 2–5 years in similar power plant roles are preferred; gas turbine electrical experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Diploma or BE/BTech in Electrical Engineering is mandatory.
• 2–5 years experience in gas/CCPP or captive power plant preferred.
• Knowledge of gas turbine electrical systems is an added advantage.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor electrical equipment during shift.
• Check generators, transformers, switchgear, MCC, and panels.
• Attend electrical breakdowns and rectify faults.
• Carry out routine inspections and preventive maintenance.
• Monitor generator synchronization and power distribution.
• Maintain UPS systems, battery banks, DG sets, lighting.
• Record shift activities and maintenance reports.
• Coordinate with other teams.
• Follow LOTO and PTW safety procedures.
• Support start-up, shutdown, and emergency activities.
• Monitor power consumption and energy-saving ideas.
• Guide technicians and contractors during maintenance.

Role & responsibilities

The Shift Engineer (Electrical) is responsible for operating and maintaining the electrical systems of the power plant. The role ensures smooth plant operations, attends electrical breakdowns, performs maintenance activities, and follows all safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• 1. Operate and monitor electrical equipment during the shift.
• 2. Check generators, transformers, switchgear, MCC, and electrical panels.
• 3. Attend electrical breakdowns and rectify faults quickly.
• 4. Carry out routine inspections and preventive maintenance.
• 5. Monitor generator synchronization and power distribution.
• 6. Maintain UPS systems, battery banks, DG sets, and lighting systems.
• 7. Record shift activities and maintenance reports.
• 8. Coordinate with Mechanical, Instrumentation, and Operations teams.
• 9. Follow electrical safety procedures, LOTO, and Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems.
• 10. Support plant start-up, shutdown, and emergency activities.
• 11. Monitor power consumption and suggest energy-saving improvements.
• 12. Guide technicians and contractors during maintenance work.

Preferred candidate profile

Qualification

• Diploma or B.E./B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering.

Experience

• 2 - 5 years of experience in a Natural Gas Power Plant, Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP), Captive Power Plant, or similar industry.
• Experience in gas turbine electrical systems is an added advantage.
