Job summary

Arup is seeking a Senior Water Engineer to lead infrastructure planning and water resource projects across India and the UKIMEA region, specialising in flood risk, hydrology, hydraulics and sustainable water solutions.

You will deliver feasibility and detailed design, ensure regulatory compliance, and contribute to business development while coordinating across cross-border teams and clients.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • Master’s degree in Water Resources, Hydraulics, Environmental Engineering or related field required.
  • 12+ years of experience in water resources and flood risk projects.
  • Proficient in hydraulic modelling tools and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Lead infrastructure planning and water resource projects across India and UKIMEA.
  • Provide technical input across feasibility studies, design and implementation.
  • Manage projects and teams; mentor junior engineers.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Water Engineer to lead infrastructure planning and water resource projects, with expertise in flood risk management, hydrology, hydraulics, river health, and sustainable water solutions. The role involves providing technical input across feasibility studies, concept and detailed design, and project implementation, while ensuring regulatory compliance and delivering innovative water management solutions. The candidate will collaborate with teams across India, the UK, Middle East, and Africa (UKIMEA), support regional project delivery, manage projects and people, and actively contribute to business development and growth opportunities within the water sector.

Is this role right for you?
  • Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering and Master’s in Water Resources, Hydraulics, Environmental Engineering, or a related field, with 12+ years of experience
  • Strong experience delivering water, flood risk, stormwater, and hydraulic modelling projects for government and private clients.
  • Advanced proficiency in InfoWorks ICM, SWMM, HEC-RAS, and HEC-HMS, with experience integrating Civil 3D and AutoCAD outputs into hydraulic models.
  • Expertise in flood risk assessments, watershed modelling, stormwater management, and environmental compliance.
  • Proven ability to prepare technical reports, present to stakeholders, and provide technical leadership and mentoring.
  • Experience in client management, business development, tender preparation, and leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of GIS and integration of modelling outputs with spatial platforms is desirable
  • Experience in construction supervision of stormwater drainage infrastructure and strong commercial awareness is essential.
