Job summary

WSP India is seeking a Senior Engineer (Flood Risk Modelling) to join our UK Water Team in delivering flood modelling projects for clients. You will provide technical support, lead small teams, and apply hydraulic/hydrological expertise with GIS skills to ensure accurate project delivery.

You will work on 1d-2d hydraulic modelling, QA procedures, and reports, while engaging in project management and continuous upskilling. UK policy exposure and chartership are desirable.

Qualifications

• Masters Degree in Water Resources Engineering or equivalent.
• Extensive flood risk management experience with hydraulic modelling and hydrology.
• Desirable exposure to UK policy, standards and software used in the UK Water Industry.
• 8+ years of industry experience is desirable.
• Experience across multiple flood risk domains within the UK Water Industry.
• Strong experience in tools like Flood Modeller Pro, TUFLOW, Estry, Infoworks ICM, HEC-RAS 1d-2d, QGIS and ArcGIS.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; MS Office and Power BI.

• Apply technical design procedures, standards, policy, contracts and software for the UK water industry.
• Lead/coordinate small teams and deliver small projects or sections of larger projects.
• Lead projects and large frameworks with guidance on flood risk assessments and GIS desk studies.
• Review project reports and technical notes; guide junior staff on technical writing.
• Manage project finances and timelines in line with BMS policies.
• Upskill on industry standards and tools; pursue chartership with ICE or CIWEM (desirable).

Job description

As Senior Engineer (Flood Risk Modelling) within our UK Water Team, you will provide technical support and independently deliver flood modelling projects to ensure accurate and efficient project delivery for internal and external clients.

Responsibilities

• Works collaboratively within the team and proactively supports junior staff in developing their technical knowledge and to independently deliver the tasks/projects.
• Excellent grasp on technical design procedures and standards, policy, contracts and specifications and technical software relevant to the UK water industry.
• Ability to recognise situations where tasks can be delegated to help develop others and improve time management.
• Demonstrable experience in checking work produced by the technical team with a strong knowledge of reviewing/QA procedures on hydraulic modelling, hydrology and flood risk management based projects.
• Proactively contributes to the culture of safety, health and well-being of self and of individuals and the team; recognises the impact of what we do on the safety of others.
• Demonstrable experience of leading/working collaboratively with a small team in the delivery of small projects (or section of work on larger multi-disciplinary projects).
• Lead projects and large-frameworks and provide thorough guidance to junior colleagues on flood risk assessments, 1d-2d hydraulic modelling, hydrology, option appraisal studies and GIS based desk studies.
• Excellent working knowledge of analytical skills on hydraulics, hydrology and hydraulic design. Excellent GIS skills on data management and excellent working knowledge of QGIS, ArcGIS and/or Mapinfo.
• Ability to review detailed project reports and technical notes and an ability to guide junior staff on detailed technical writing.
• Demonstrable experience in application of Project Management procedures, BMS and proposal development. Strong experience of financial management of projects and an ability to monitor project financials, programme in adherence to BMS policies.
• Continuously upskill on the industry standards, specifications and tools used in the UK water sector and cascade the skills to junior colleagues.
• Working towards Chartership with ICE or CIWEM (Desirable).

Qualifications

• Masters Degree in Water Resources Engineering or equivalent.
• Strong prior experience on flood risk management based projects, hydraulic modelling, hydrology and preferably with exposure to UK policy, standards, specifications and software tools used in the UK Water Industry. A Minimum of 8 years industry experience is desirable.
• Demonstrated experience of multiple domains/skillsets within flood risk management sector and UK Water Industry.
• Strong experience in appropriate UK modelling software (Flood Modeller Pro, TUFLOW, Estry, Infoworks ICM, HEC-RAS 1d-2d, QGIS, ArcGIS)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and MS Office and/or PowerBI.
• Ability to independently lead/resolve issues on technical matters, strong background in collaborating with other design disciplines on multi-disciplinary projects.
