Job summary

Next is seeking a Senior Test Engineer – Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our Enterprise Software R&D team in Bengaluru. You will design test strategies, automate scenarios and validate features to ensure quality, reliability and performance of our enterprise applications.

The ideal candidate has 5–8 years in software testing, strong automation skills, solid test planning and defect management, and mandatory experience in the Energy Trade and Risk Management (ETRM) domain.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of experience in Software Testing, QA or Test Automation.
• Mandatory experience in the ETRM (Energy Trade and Risk Management) domain.
• Strong hands-on experience in Test Automation and automated test scenario development.
• Strong experience in test planning, test case design and manual test execution.
• Hands-on experience with Jira and Zephyr Scale.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test plans, test scenarios and test cases based on product requirements.
• Design, develop and maintain automated test scripts to validate software functionality, reliability and performance.
• Perform manual and automated testing across enterprise software applications.
• Identify, document, track and validate software defects through the complete defect lifecycle.
• Perform functional, regression and integration testing to ensure product quality.
• Investigate customer-reported issues and product defects and support root‑cause analysis.
• Monitor test results and identify opportunities for improving test coverage, quality and testing efficiency.
• Recommend and implement preventive and corrective actions to maintain quality standards.
• Work closely with Developers, R&D Engineers, Product Teams and other stakeholders to resolve defects and ensure successful releases.
• Prepare and maintain test documentation, test reports and quality metrics.
• Use Jira and Zephyr Scale for test management, test execution and defect tracking.
• Perform database validation and testing using SQL/PostgreSQL.
• Ensure software quality and testing practices align with defined quality and industry requirements.

What We Seek In You

• 5–8 years of experience in Software Testing, QA or Test Automation.
• Mandatory experience in the ETRM (Energy Trade and Risk Management) domain.
• Strong hands‑on experience in Test Automation and automated test scenario development.
• Strong experience in test planning, test case design and manual test execution.
• Hands‑on experience with Jira and Zephyr Scale.
• Good understanding of functional, regression, integration and system testing.
• Strong knowledge of defect identification, tracking and resolution processes.
• Good database testing skills with hands‑on experience in SQL and preferably PostgreSQL.
• Experience working with QA databases and testing applications/tools.
• Strong analytical, debugging and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify potential quality issues.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with API Testing using Postman.
• Good understanding of JSON and XML.
• Experience validating REST APIs and web services.
• Knowledge of SQL query writing, database validation and data integrity testing.
• Experience working with enterprise software products.
• Exposure to quality auditing, quality assurance processes and industry compliance requirements.
• Experience investigating customer complaints and production issues.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development and testing practices.
• Experience working with distributed or cross‑functional R&D teams.
