Job summary

Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) invites a Senior Technical Superintendent to oversee end-to-end technical and operational performance of assigned vessels, ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and cost-efficient ship management.

You will act as the primary technical contact for Masters and Chief Engineers, drive maintenance, dry-docking, budgeting, and continuous improvement, while mentoring shipboard teams and supporting fleet objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in mechanical/electrical/marine fields, or Chief Engineer’s qualification.
• At least 3 years sailing as Senior Officer or 3 years shore experience as Technical Superintendent.
• Experience with Bulk vessels is essential.

Responsibilities

• Deliver contractual ship management services in line with customer agreements.
• Act as primary technical contact for Masters and Chief Engineers on safety, maintenance, drydock planning, critical equipment and repairs.
• Maintain communication with clients on technical, operational, and budget matters.
• Monitor machinery, equipment performance and maintenance execution to enhance safety and efficiency.
• Develop and monitor maintenance, repair, and drydocking plans within budgets.
• Prepare, control, and report technical and OPEX budgets for assigned vessels.
• Ensure vessels maintain valid certification and regulatory compliance.
• Plan, conduct, and follow up on vessel visits, inspections, audits, and surveys.
• Coach and mentor shipboard personnel and participate in performance reviews.

Job description

As a Senior Technical Superintendent at BSM, you will be responsible for providing end-to-end technical and operational oversight of assigned vessels, ensuring safe, compliant, and cost-efficient ship management. The role plays a critical part in connecting ship and shore by acting as the primary technical point of contact for vessels, clients, and external stakeholders, while supporting BSM’s strategic objectives, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of fleet performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver contractual ship management services in line with customer agreements, ensuring vessels meet required technical and operational standards

• Act as the primary technical contact for Masters and Chief Engineers, providing guidance on safety, maintenance, drydock planning, critical equipment, and non-routine repairs

• Maintain close communication with clients on technical, operational, and budgetary matters, building effective working relationships

• Monitor vessel machinery, equipment performance, and maintenance execution to enhance safety, reliability, energy efficiency, and operational performance

• Develop, implement, and monitor maintenance, repair, and drydocking plans, ensuring timely execution within approved budgets

• Prepare, control, and report technical and OPEX budgets for assigned vessels

• Ensure vessels maintain valid certification and comply with all applicable maritime legislation

• Plan, conduct, and follow up on vessel visits, inspections, audits, and surveys

• Coach, mentor, and support shipboard personnel, including performance reviews, interviews, and contribution to career development

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or equivalent, OR Chief Engineer’s qualification.

• Minimum 3 years of sailing experience as Senior Officer OR 3 years of shore experience as Technical Superintendent in a ship management or owning company.

• Experience with Bulk vessels is essential.
