Job description

Burns & McDonnell India is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Global Facility Services (GFS) practice, a high‑tech, multi‑discipline team delivering engineering services across America and Canada for food & beverage, consumer products, data centers, pharmaceutical, life sciences, healthcare, manufacturing, commercial, and institutional facilities.

High level Overview of Engineering Scope for Projects in GFS

• Structural analysis and design in compliance with American/Canadian standards
• Steel building design (e.g., process buildings, industrial buildings, warehouses, canopies, etc.)
• Diaphragm analysis and design (rigid and flexible)
• Steel structure design (pipe racks, pipe bridges, platforms, stair towers, pipe trestles, etc.)
• Foundation design for buildings and structures (both shallow and deep foundations)
• Design of concrete retaining walls, CMU walls, underground pits, containments, etc.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead structural design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion, ensuring alignment with project managers’ requirements.
• Analyze and design superstructures and foundations for industrial facilities, as well as steel and concrete buildings.
• Review geotechnical reports, provide comments and clarifications.
• Examine equipment vendor drawings and fabrication drawings.
• Capture internal client requirements and advise on structural solutions that meet safety code compliance.
• Coordinate with other disciplines, clients, and stakeholders to achieve conflict‑free system designs.
• Manage the assigned scope within agreed schedule and budget.
• Monitor quality, budget, and schedule KPIs for the assigned project.
• Apply strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, and interpersonal skills.
• Self‑check work to ensure accuracy.
• Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates; report on project performance.
• Lead GFS GP‑Food & Beverage business line projects and mentor team members.
• Support manpower planning, hiring, work forecasting, and maintain high chargeability of the group.
• Assign qualified staff for project‑specific skill requirements in consultation with SM.
• Advance in career by taking on increased project and organizational responsibilities.
• Act as technical advisor, providing senior level inputs.
• Ensure QA/QC process adherence.
• Maintain compliance with company and site safety policies.
• Collect performance feedback and conduct appraisal meetings with the team.
• Train and develop team members, identify up‑skill opportunities, and formulate career development plans.
• Demonstrate commitment and initiative as a team player.
• Lead and guide less experienced engineers in the structural engineering practice.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution; Master’s in Structural Engineering is an added advantage.
• Minimum 7–10 years of experience, preferably with EPC projects.
• Experience with Oil and Gas industry projects is preferred.
• Proficiency in design software such as STAAD Pro, RISA 3D, RAM Connections, AutoCAD, etc.
• Knowledge of Revit or Navisworks is an added advantage.
• Knowledge of American and Canadian design codes is an added advantage.
• Microsoft Office proficiency – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote.
