Job summary

Google is seeking a senior software engineer to lead the YouTube Create App team in Bengaluru, guiding a group of about 40 engineers. You will help set goals, roadmap, and technical direction for the product as it grows and evolves.

You will provide technical leadership, mentor TLMs and TLs, and drive cross-functional collaboration to ensure alignment of strategy, roadmaps, and execution across multiple work streams, while delivering high-quality software at scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software development.
• 7 years of experience building/developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, or related compute/storage/hardware areas.
• 3 years of full stack development across back-end (Java/Python/C++) and front-end (JavaScript/TypeScript/HTML/CSS).

• Set the overall goal and roadmap for the product for the coming years and provide technical guidance for the Bengaluru team of ~40 engineers.
• Provide technical leadership and promote best engineering practices across YouTube teams.
• Mentor and support TLMs and TLs on technical decisions.
• Co-own delivery of OKR and roadmap with TLMs.
• Drive cross-organizational collaboration to align strategy and decisions across multiple work streams.

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software development.
• 7 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
• 3 years of experience with full stack development, across back-end such as Java, Python, or C++ codebases, and front-end experience including JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS or equivalent.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.

Responsibilities

• Participate in setting up the overall goal and roadmap for the coming years for this product and provide technical guidance for the team of ~40 engineers working on YouTube Create App in Bengaluru.
• Provide technical leadership, and establish and advocate for the best engineering practices across teams at YouTube.
• Provide technical mentorship and support the TLMs and TLs on the team with technical decisions.
• Co‑own delivery of OKR and roadmap with the TLMs.
• Drive cross‑organizational collaboration and ensure the strategy, direction, and decisions of multiple work streams are integrated, aligned, and positioned to support differentiation.
