Job summary

Nutanix is seeking a Solutions Automation Engineer to develop deterministic Python software that deploys, configures, and validates Nutanix private and hybrid cloud environments. You will design agentic workflows, including prompt engineering and evaluation harnesses, deciding what belongs in deterministic code and what is best handled by an agent.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 6+ years building production software, with deep experience in at least one role.
• Python is required; strong production-grade depth and ownership of a Python codebase.
• Hands-on experience with LLMs and agentic tooling: prompt engineering, agent skills or tool definitions, and testing non-deterministic systems.
• Good judgment on what should be deterministic vs. when an agent adds value; keep trusted paths in code.
• Strong fundamentals in OOP, algorithms, data structures, and problem solving.
• Cloud native delivery: containerized apps (Docker, Kubernetes) and automated CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with REST APIs and infrastructure as code.
• Experience with systems products such as storage, virtualization, networking, databases, or OS.
• Skill in debugging complex distributed applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to present to customers and senior stakeholders.
• Self-starter, able to work independently and manage priorities under pressure.

Nutanix Validated Designs (NVDs) certify Nutanix Solutions cross-product interoperability at scale. Solutions Automation Engineers build the software behind that certification: the programmatic environment builds and validation workflows that Solutions Architects and Quality Engineering rely on.

We are changing how that work gets done. Standing up infrastructure is already a solved problem for us, because our Python infrastructure-as-code tooling builds the same environment the same way every time. Judgment is the harder part, and it covers reading a validated design, catching the contradictions buried in it, and justifying every design decision before anything gets built. That is the work we are handing to agents.

In this role you will write the deterministic Python that has to be correct on every run, and you will build the agentic workflows around it: the prompts, the skills, the guardrails, and the evaluations that decide when an agent can act on its own and when control belongs to a pipeline or to a person.

You will work on hard problems at scale, with the freedom to deliver, alongside engineers who care about getting it right.

Your Role

Design, build, and maintain Python software that deploys, configures, and validates Nutanix private and hybrid cloud environments.

Build agentic workflows around that software, including prompt engineering, agent skill and tool development, and the evaluation harnesses that show a workflow works before we rely on it.

Decide what belongs in deterministic code and what belongs to an agent, and be able to defend that decision. Most of what you deliver should be deterministic and repeatable, with agents used where the problem involves ambiguity, synthesis, or design judgment.

Use agentic coding tools in your daily work, and help raise the team's practice as the tooling changes.

Build and operate cloud native, automated pipelines, covering containerized workloads, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code, so that builds and validations run without manual intervention.

Automate validation as part of building the feature, and catch regressions before a release reaches a customer.

Analyze failures, determine root cause, and drive fixes to closure.

Demo your work to Solutions Architects, product teams, and customers, and write documentation that other people can actually use.

Engage with customers and support when needed to solve production issues.

What You'll Bring

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.

6+ years building production software, with real depth in at least one role.

Python is required. We are looking for production-grade depth and the ability to own a Python codebase that other people depend on.

Hands-on experience building with LLMs and agentic tooling: prompt engineering, agent skills or tool definitions, and testing and evaluating non-deterministic systems.

Good judgment about where automation should be deterministic and where an agent adds value, and the discipline to keep the trusted path in code.

Strong fundamentals in Object-Oriented Programming, algorithms, data structures, and problem solving.

Cloud native delivery experience: containerized applications (Docker, Kubernetes) and automated CI/CD pipelines.

Experience working against REST APIs and building infrastructure as code.

Experience with a "systems" product such as storage, virtualization, networking, databases, or operating systems.

Skill in debugging complex distributed applications.

Excellent written and verbal communication, and the confidence to present technical work to customers and senior stakeholders.

A self-starter who can work independently, juggle competing priorities, respect differences, and maintain professionalism under pressure.

Nice to Have

Experience with Terraform, Ansible, or comparable infrastructure as code tooling.

Background as a platform engineer, SRE, or solutions architect who writes production code.

Experience with Jira, GitHub, Artifactory, and modern CI systems.
