Job summary

Optum is seeking a senior backend engineer in India to build GenAI-powered customer engagement solutions using Amazon Connect, Bedrock, Lex and related AWS services. You will develop scalable backend services in Python, orchestrate workflows with Lambda, Step Functions and API Gateway, and drive omni-channel adoption across channels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a solid focus on backend development using Python
• Hands-on experience in building GenAI or ML-powered applications using AWS or open-source frameworks
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code (IaC), and monitoring tools
• Proven experience with AWS services, especially Amazon Connect, Lambda, Step Functions, Bedrock, Lex, and S3
• Solid understanding of digital customer engagement platforms and omni-channel architecture
• Proven excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment

Primary Responsibilities:

• Develop scalable solutions for Amazon Connect digital channels (chat, SMS, email, WhatsApp)
• Implementation of GenAI-driven features using Amazon Bedrock, Lex, and SageMaker to enhance customer and agent experiences
• Build and maintain backend services and orchestration workflows using Python, AWS Lambda, Step Functions, and API Gateway
• Collaborate with product managers, solution architects, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact features
