Job summary

Abnormal AI is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build a scalable data backbone for its Multi-Product Platform. You will own the data layer, ensure security and tenant isolation, and drive cross-team standards from day one. Strong production Python and Golang skills are essential.

You will design APIs, implement data access patterns, and mentor engineers while collaborating with product managers and other teams to deliver high-throughput, low-latency systems.

About the Role

We aim to empower customers to visualize, control, and combat cyber-security threats with an exceptional suite of products. The Multi-Product Platform (MPP) organization enables scalable product development, helping the business build and launch enterprise-grade products with a consistent customer experience. This role builds the data backbone that every Abnormal product depends on. As a Senior Software Engineer on MPP and founding engineer of the team, you will create a standardized data layer that serves as the single source of truth — a governed path through which any system, agent, or interface can access data across products, from a single record to cross-product aggregates, online or offline, in whatever shape it needs. You will work to deliver high throughput and low latency while enforcing tenant isolation, authentication, and fine-grained access control so teams receive security and reliability by default — AI-native from day one. You will define the foundation on which every product is built, where getting it right compounds across the company. If you are energized by 0→1 platform work, driving cross-team standards, and owning a system end-to-end, this role is for you.

What You’ll Do

Technical Delivery & Operational Excellence

• Design, build, and iterate on the APIs and services that make up the standardized data access layer.
• Drive adoption of API-gated data sources, so product teams expose their data once and every consuming surface can reuse it, instead of building one-off integrations.
• Design and implement standard labeling for data ownership, and build the validation logic that checks incoming requests against it.
• Own reliability, latency, and operational excellence for a high-throughput, low-latency system on the critical request path.
• Make the early architectural calls and codify them in technical design docs the team aligns on.
• Establish the team\'s engineering practices — testing, code/design review, on-call, and CI guardrails — and the patterns future hires inherit.

Teamwork & Collaboration

• Communicate effectively in an asynchronous manner with team members to provide updates, discuss challenges, and propose solutions.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to align on how they\'ll adopt the shared data layer.
• Take ownership of projects and act as a driver who adds momentum and drives positive impact on projects and teams.
• Mentor engineers as the team grows, and influence roadmap and long-term planning.
• Actively contribute to knowledge sharing within the team and participate in professional development activities.

Must Have Skills

• Experienced Senior Software Engineer with 7+ years of industry experience and strong software engineering fundamentals.
• Forward-looking with the ability to anticipate growing system needs.
• Growth-oriented, seeking to increase impact, responsibility, and ownership over time.
• Proven ability to own and drive complex systems end-to-end, with strong knowledge of team-owned services and the ability to collaborate and influence cross-team goals and roadmaps.
• Strong experience writing production Python and Golang code and working with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Solid experience in system design and building resilient, scalable applications with an emphasis on operational excellence.
• Detail-driven and committed to code quality, testing, and performance.
• Ability to make practical trade-offs and propose technical solutions, including writing technical design documents and leading their adoption.
• Strong understanding of service health, monitoring, fault tolerance, and incident response practices.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work autonomously and asynchronously with remote collaborators and stakeholders.
• Strong communication and mentorship skills to influence team-wide engineering practices.

Nice to Have Skills

• Experience designing or building data access layers, APIs, or platforms that other engineering teams build on top of.
• Experience treating an internal platform as a product — building for other engineering teams as customers.
• Familiarity with GenAI productivity tools.
• Experience with big data platforms and technologies.
