Job summary

Recrew AI is seeking a seasoned backend engineer to own substantial components of the cloud-native SaaS platform used by dental practices. You will build scalable backend services, event-driven workflows, and contribute across full-stack needs to deliver robust features daily.

You will mentor peers, participate in architecture discussions, and raise the bar for performance, reliability, and security while working with modern AWS services and container orchestration.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of software engineering experience building and operating SaaS or web apps.
• Strong backend proficiency in Python with Django, Django REST Framework, or FastAPI; SQLAlchemy/Alembic experience.
• Hands-on experience with event-driven architecture and Kafka (or Kafka-compatible) in production.
• Proven AWS experience: ECS/EKS/Fargate, Lambda, RDS, ElastiCache, S3, API Gateway, CloudWatch.
• Solid PostgreSQL experience with design, optimization, and Redis caching.
• Ability to own and deliver complex features independently, debugging performance, scalability, reliability.
• Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).

• Build scalable REST APIs, backend services, and event-driven workflows using Kafka-compatible messaging.
• Contribute to frontend and full-stack development with React.js, Next.js, and TypeScript as needed.
• Translate ambiguous requirements into well-structured technical designs; participate in architecture discussions.
• Improve observability with monitoring, logging, and alerting (OpenTelemetry, New Relic, CloudWatch).
• Write and review unit, integration, and automated tests; uphold high code quality and operability.
• Mentor junior engineers through pairing and code reviews; leverage AI-assisted tools to improve delivery speed.

Position Overview

This role owns significant components of the company's cloud-native SaaS platform — taking features from ambiguous requirements through design, implementation, and production operation. You'll build scalable backend services, event-driven workflows, and full-stack capabilities that serve thousands of dental practices daily. Beyond shipping, you'll raise the technical bar through architecture contributions, code reviews, and mentoring peers.

Role & Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own end-to-end features and services across the platform — from requirements through production operation.
• Build scalable REST APIs, backend services, and event-driven workflows using Kafka-compatible messaging and async processing patterns.
• Contribute to frontend and full-stack development using React.js, Next.js, and TypeScript as needed.
• Translate ambiguous requirements into well-structured technical designs; participate in architecture discussions and document trade-offs clearly.
• Improve system observability through monitoring, logging, and alerting (OpenTelemetry, New Relic, CloudWatch); participate in on-call incident response.
• Write and review unit, integration, and automated tests; uphold high standards for code quality and operational readiness.
• Mentor junior engineers through pairing and code reviews; use AI-assisted development tools to improve delivery speed without compromising quality or security.

Must Have Criteria

• 5–8 years of software engineering experience building and operating production-grade SaaS or web applications.
• Strong backend proficiency in Python with Django, Django REST Framework, or FastAPI; experience with SQLAlchemy/Alembic.
• Hands-on experience with event-driven architecture and Kafka (or Kafka-compatible systems: Redpanda, Amazon MSK) in production.
• Proven experience with AWS services: ECS/EKS/Fargate, Lambda, RDS, ElastiCache, S3, API Gateway, and CloudWatch.
• Solid experience with PostgreSQL — including database design, query optimization, and caching strategies with Redis.
• Demonstrated ability to own and deliver complex features independently, including debugging performance, scalability, and reliability issues.
• Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).

Nice to Have

• Experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms or large-scale transactional/data-intensive workloads.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes for container orchestration.
• Experience building ETL/data pipelines or exposure to Databricks or similar analytics platforms.
• Exposure to healthcare technology or HIPAA-compliant application development.
• Track record of mentoring engineers and leading feature development across a team.
