Industry: AI, Medical SaaS, Dental Technology
About Company
The company builds medical AI SaaS for the U.S. dental market.
Its all-in-one platform unifies analytics, scheduling, communications, payments, and marketing automation. Thousands of dental practices across North America rely on it daily.
It automates admin busywork and gives teams real-time visibility into revenue and retention. Patients get a self-serve portal to book appointments, view history, and pay online.
The company is mission-driven, execution-oriented, and operating in one of healthcare's most under-digitized verticals.
Position Overview
This role owns significant components of the company's cloud-native SaaS platform — taking features from ambiguous requirements through design, implementation, and production operation. You'll build scalable backend services, event-driven workflows, and full-stack capabilities that serve thousands of dental practices daily. Beyond shipping, you'll raise the technical bar through architecture contributions, code reviews, and mentoring peers.
Role & Responsibilities
- Design, build, and own end-to-end features and services across the platform — from requirements through production operation.
- Build scalable REST APIs, backend services, and event-driven workflows using Kafka-compatible messaging and async processing patterns.
- Contribute to frontend and full-stack development using React.js, Next.js, and TypeScript as needed.
- Translate ambiguous requirements into well-structured technical designs; participate in architecture discussions and document trade-offs clearly.
- Improve system observability through monitoring, logging, and alerting (OpenTelemetry, New Relic, CloudWatch); participate in on-call incident response.
- Write and review unit, integration, and automated tests; uphold high standards for code quality and operational readiness.
- Mentor junior engineers through pairing and code reviews; use AI-assisted development tools to improve delivery speed without compromising quality or security.
Must Have Criteria
- 5–8 years of software engineering experience building and operating production-grade SaaS or web applications.
- Strong backend proficiency in Python with Django, Django REST Framework, or FastAPI; experience with SQLAlchemy/Alembic.
- Hands-on experience with event-driven architecture and Kafka (or Kafka-compatible systems: Redpanda, Amazon MSK) in production.
- Proven experience with AWS services: ECS/EKS/Fargate, Lambda, RDS, ElastiCache, S3, API Gateway, and CloudWatch.
- Solid experience with PostgreSQL — including database design, query optimization, and caching strategies with Redis.
- Demonstrated ability to own and deliver complex features independently, including debugging performance, scalability, and reliability issues.
- Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).
Nice to Have
- Experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms or large-scale transactional/data-intensive workloads.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes for container orchestration.
- Experience building ETL/data pipelines or exposure to Databricks or similar analytics platforms.
- Exposure to healthcare technology or HIPAA-compliant application development.
- Track record of mentoring engineers and leading feature development across a team.
What We Offer
- End-to-end ownership of meaningful platform components with clear, measurable impact on thousands of dental practices.
- Tight, cross-functional team with high autonomy and fast shipping cycles in a large, under-digitized healthcare vertical.
- Flexible scheduling and strong support for technical growth and continuous learning.
- Opportunity to work at the intersection of AI, medical SaaS, and real-world operational impact.
