Job summary

Volvo Cars invites applications for a Senior Backend Engineer (Java) to join our India Digital Tech Hub in Bangalore. You will design, develop, and maintain scalable microservices within a product team, strengthening the Product Costing backend.

We seek 10+ years in backend development with strong Java and Spring Boot, plus PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, and messaging systems. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable cloud-based solutions.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend development with Java and Spring Boot.

• Experience with GraphQL, REST APIs, Kafka.
• University degree in engineering or similar.

The Digital Tech Hub is an integral part of the digital transformation journey for Volvo Cars. The Tech Hub is a strategic player, providing skills and competencies in areas such as cloud solutions, data science and analytics, SAP, UX/UI and we are part of managing key technology platforms within various domains such as R&D, manufacturing & logistics and the commercial area.

What you'll do

What we offer
This role is within our Digital Finance team, and you will drive innovation in the Product Costing experience by developing backend services. You will be part of a product team and will strengthen our backend capability, by designing, developing, and maintaining scalable microservices, working closely with developers, product manager, and other stakeholders.

Main responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable backend code (Java, SQL, scripts)
• Handle integrations of backend services, ensuring seamless communication across different platforms and cloud technologies
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to create cohesive and scalable solutions
• Drive innovation and initiatives within the team, contributing to the continuous improvement of our processes and services

What you'll bring

Do you fit the profile?

• 10+ years of professional backend development, at least 8 years working with Java, very strong experience in Spring Boot
• Strong experience in working with Github, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, different integration techniques like messaging IBM MQ and data handling
• Experience in working with technologies such as GraphQL, REST APIs, event driven architecture with Kafka
• Hands-on responsibility for design, reliability, and production systems, not just feature delivery
• Strong experience in developing and integrating complex backend services
• Experience with cloud technologies and various communication protocols
• Experience of data analysis and high data volumes in system integrations
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, capable of working in a cross-functional team environment and close to different stakeholders
• University degree in engineering or similar
