Skillz is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test in Bengaluru to drive automation and quality across UI, API, and backend systems. You will strengthen CI/CD gates, promote early defect detection, and collaborate with engineers, product managers, and QA for reliable releases.

The role offers a hybrid model with 3 days in the Bangalore office weekly and opportunities to scale testing frameworks with AI-assisted testing techniques.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in software quality engineering, with automation leadership.
• Experience building scalable test automation for UI, API, and backend systems.
• Hands-on with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions) and test integration.
• Understanding of cloud environments, containers, microservices, and test environments.
• Experience ensuring environment stability and flaky test reduction.
• Performance testing experience (load, stress, scalability) and bottleneck analysis.
• Collaboration with DevOps/SRE to improve reliability.
• Experience applying AI-driven approaches for test design and failure analysis.
• Ability to leverage AI tools (Claude, Cursor, Copilot) in testing workflows.

What You’ll Own:

The Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) role is critical in driving engineering-led quality by ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our products. This role contributes directly to customer experience, release confidence, and overall product stability through strong automation practices and proactive quality ownership.

By enhancing test automation coverage, strengthening CI/CD quality gates, and promoting early defect detection, the Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) directly reduces manual QA effort, production defects, release risk, and engineering rework — translating into lower operational cost, faster release cycles, and more predictable, confident delivery. The role also collaborates closely with developers, product managers, and QA teams to build scalable quality processes and continuously improve engineering efficiency.

What You Bring:

1. 5+ years of experience in software quality engineering — setting automation direction, mentoring SDETs, and driving technical execution


2. Strong hands-on experience in building scalable test automation frameworks for UI, API, and backend systems (Integration Testing)


3. Deep experience working with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, etc.), including test integration, pipeline optimization, and release gating


4. Strong understanding of infrastructure components impacting quality (cloud environments, containers, microservices, service dependencies, and test environments)


5. Proven experience ensuring environment stability, including test environment reliability, test data management, and flaky test reduction


6. Strong background in performance testing and engineering (load, stress, scalability testing, and performance bottleneck analysis)


7. Experience collaborating with DevOps/SRE teams to improve system reliability, deployment stability, and observability


8. Hands-on experience leveraging AI tools such as Claude, Cursor, Copilot, and LLM-based systems to improve test design, automate test creation, analyze failures, and accelerate debugging workflows


9. Experience applying AI-driven approaches for log analysis, failure clustering, test optimization, and defect pattern detection

Note: Ability to work from the Bangalore office 3 days per week.
