Job summary

Skillz in Bengaluru is seeking a highly experienced Frontend Engineer Leader to architect and guide frontend efforts across Native, Web, and React Native products. You will own the React Native SDK for third-party developers and mentor engineers to raise the bar on performance and UX.

The role emphasizes scalable UI, real-time updates via WebSockets, and cross-platform consistency, with a strong preference for React expertise and gaming experience. Bangalore onsite 3 days/week.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of frontend engineering experience with modern JS/TS and at least one major framework (React preferred).
• Proven experience shipping consumer-facing mobile experiences via React Native or web in mobile game flows.
• Deep expertise in client-side performance, rendering, state management at scale, and low-latency UI (WebSockets / event-driven updates).
• Experience with gaming engines/SDK integration or a passion for polished game interfaces is a plus.
• Strong component architecture and design systems; cross-platform consistency.

What You’ll Own

As the complexity of our SDK grows—across expanding product lines, multi-platform support, and increasing real-time demands, we need a highly experienced technical leader to architect, guide, and future-proof our engineering efforts across domains.

• Strategic Technical Leadership: Lead the design and evolution of the frontend architecture for our Native(Android and IOS), Web and React Native-based products, ensuring scalability, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Elevate the React Native SDK Experience: Own the development and continuous improvement of our Native components and React Native SDK for third-party game developers, enabling seamless integration with the Skillz platform.
• Mentorship & Talent Development: They will mentor lead, senior and mid-level engineers, raising the overall technical bar and creating a culture of engineering excellence in frontend.
• Deliver Exceptional User Experiences: Apply deep expertise in performance optimisation, accessibility, responsiveness, and user interaction design to elevate the overall product experience.
• Support Business Growth and Innovation: Evaluate new technologies, frameworks, and tools that advance our competitive advantage while balancing risk, cost, and engineering velocity.

What You Bring

• At least 12+ years of professional experience in frontend engineering with modern JavaScript/TypeScript and at least one major framework (React, Vue, or Angular); depth in React strongly preferred.
• Proven experience building and shipping consumer-facing mobile experiences — either via React Native / native (iOS/Android) or web clients embedded in mobile game flows.
• Deep expertise in client-side performance engineering: rendering optimisation, state management at scale, bundle size discipline, and low-latency real-time UI (WebSockets / event-driven updates).

• Experience in the Gaming Industry (ideally), including familiarity with game clients, engines (e.g., Unity), or SDK integration—alternatively, a genuine passion for building polished, high-engagement interfaces for games.
• Strong experience with component architecture, design systems, cross-platform consistency, and integrating against distributed, multi-tiered backend services.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a technical field of study, or equivalent industry experience.
• Able to work in-office 3 days a week in Bangalore, India.
