Job summary

Skillz is looking for a Principal Software Engineer - Frontend to architect and guide frontend across native, web, and React Native products in Bengaluru. You will lead the RN SDK, mentor engineers, and drive performance-focused user experiences for real-time, mobile gaming flows.

The role emphasizes cross-platform consistency, game client familiarity, and evaluating new technologies to accelerate innovation while balancing risk and velocity.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of frontend engineering with modern JavaScript/TypeScript and a major framework (React, Vue, or Angular).
• Experience shipping consumer-facing mobile experiences via React Native or web clients in mobile game flows.
• Deep expertise in client-side performance engineering and low-latency real-time UI (WebSockets).
• Experience in gaming industry or passion for high-engagement game interfaces.
• Bachelor's degree in CS or equivalent; able to work in-office 3 days a week in Bengaluru.

What You’ll Own:

As the complexity of our SDK grows—across expanding product lines, multi-platform support, and increasing real-time demands, we need a highly experienced technical leader to architect, guide, and future-proof our engineering efforts across domains.

The Principal Software Engineer - FE, is expected to do the following

• Strategic Technical Leadership: Lead the design and evolution of the frontend architecture for our Native(Android and IOS ), Web and React Native-based products, ensuring scalability, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Elevate the React Native SDK Experience: Own the development and continuous improvement of our Native components and React Native SDK for third-party game developers, enabling seamless integration with the Skillz platform.
• Mentorship & Talent Development: They will mentor lead, senior and mid-level engineers, raising the overall technical bar and creating a culture of engineering excellence in frontend.
• Deliver Exceptional User Experiences: Apply deep expertise in performance optimisation, accessibility, responsiveness, and user interaction design to elevate the overall product experience.
• Support Business Growth and Innovation: Evaluate new technologies, frameworks, and tools that advance our competitive advantage while balancing risk, cost, and engineering velocity.
• Accelerating Innovation: Their presence reduces technical risk for new initiatives and helps compress time to market by identifying reusable patterns and common frameworks.

What You Bring:

• At least 12+ years of professional experience in frontend engineering with modern JavaScript/TypeScript and at least one major framework (React, Vue, or Angular); depth in React strongly preferred.
• Proven experience building and shipping consumer-facing mobile experiences — either via React Native / native ( iOS /Android) or web clients embedded in mobile game flows.
• Deep expertise in client-side performance engineering: rendering optimisation, state management at scale, bundle size discipline, and low-latency real-time UI (WebSockets / event-driven updates).

• Experience in the Gaming Industry (ideally), including familiarity with game clients, engines (e.g., Unity), or SDK integration—alternatively, a genuine passion for building polished, high-engagement interfaces for games.
• Strong experience with component architecture, design systems, cross-platform consistency, and integrating against distributed, multi-tiered backend services.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a technical field of study, or equivalent industry experience.
• Able to work in-office 3 days a week in Bangalore, India.
