Job summary

ABB in Bengaluru, India, is seeking a Senior Project Engineer- Relays, Drives & Automation to lead LV/MV drive projects within the Process Automation Business Area. The role reports to Engineering Manager and is onsite in Bangalore, focusing on commissioning, validation, and cost-effective execution in line with project specifications.

You will review drive system packages, troubleshoot drive faults, engage with customers and vendors, and support procurement while coordinating multi-disciplinary

Qualifications

• Diploma or BE/BTech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
• Experience in drive engineering is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review drive system packages for LV/MV air-cooled or liquid-cooled drives.
• Troubleshoot LV drive faults using logs and data.
• Coordinate with customers, suppliers and internal teams (project management, estimating, design).
• Review project engineering documents including wiring diagrams and cable schedules.
• Support procurement of electrical equipment and review vendor bids.
• Program numerical relays from different manufacturers and configure protection relays.
• Understand IEC 61850, SCL, MMS, GOOSE and SAS/IED communication.

In this role you will be reporting to Engineering Manager and will be responsible for acting as Senior engineer for projects with low to medium complexity. Ensuring com pletion of all commissioning activities efficiently and cost-effectively in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, cybersecurity policies and standards.The work model for the role is: #LI-OnsiteThis role is contributing to Process Automation business for Operation Centers and Quality division based in Bangalore, India.You will be mainly accountable for:Reviewing of drive system package for LV or MV air cooled or liquid cooled type drive systems.Troubleshooting LV drive faults using drive debug, monitoring files, data logger and fault loggersEstablishing effective communication with customer, suppliers and all other departments including global offices: project management, estimating, process, mechanical and electrical design etc. Attending customer meetings as requiredReviewing of project engineering documents, single line, topology diagrams interconnection drawings, cable schedules, commissioning and site acceptance proceduresParticipating in procurement of electrical equipment, including preparation or reviewing of specifications, requisitions, carrying out technical bid evaluations, monitoring the progress of drawings, documents and purchase specificationsReviewing approved vendor list from the customer as per RFQ and decide on global sourcing plans for all equipment like LV switchboard, VFD switchboards and control system etcProgramming of Numerical relay from different manufactures, configuration of Numerical relays.Basic understanding of protection relay configuration using vendor-specific engineering tools (e.g., ABB PCM600 or equivalent).Understanding of the IEC 61850 standard, including Substation Configuration Language (SCL), MMS, GOOSE messaging, and client-server communication.Familiarity with Substation Automation Systems (SAS), IED communication, network architecture, and GOOSE-based interlocking and tripping schemes.Qualifications for the role :-Diploma or B E or B Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.Minimum 7 to 10 years of experience in Engineering Manager in Business Area - India Operations Centre, Process Automation (LD & Hubs)Exposure in drives engineering, ABB drives knowledge and drive automation.More about us:ABB Energy Industries is enabling safe, smart and sustainable projects and operations for businesses across the oil, gas, chemicals, life sciences, power generation and water sectors.
