Job summary

ABB in Bengaluru (India) seeks a technical lead for HV system engineering, overseeing complex 66kV–400kV assignments across offshore wind, onshore power from shore and BESS projects. The role ensures efficient, compliant engineering across disciplines, in line with contract specs, safety and cybersecurity standards.

The work base is in Bangalore/Chennai with travel to customer and vendor sites; leadership of engineering teams and collaboration with various functions are key success factors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering required.
• 10–15 years of relevant project engineering experience with HV systems.
• Onshore/offshore substation experience and site execution preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering activities for HV systems (66kV–400kV) in industrial projects.
• Prepare SLDs, protection diagrams, equipment layouts and sections.
• Perform design calculations for sizing, earthing, cables, lighting and lightning.
• Coordinate with subsystems and stakeholders; manage engineering schedule.
• Prepare BOMs, datasheets, tech bids and contractor review for HV equipment.
• Travel to customer locations for engineering, manufacturing and FAT support.

Your role and responsibilities

The primary focus of this role will be to act as the technical lead for all engineering activities in assignments classified as HV system engineering complexity (66kV to 400kV). Ensures that the activities related to all engineering disciplines within the project are executed in an efficient and cost-effective manner, in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and cybersecurity policies and standards.

The work model for the role is

This role is contributing to Process Automation business for Operation Centers and Quality division based in Bangalore / Chennai, India.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Perform basic and detail engineering activities and provide optimized solutions for High Voltage electrical system in industrial projects specifically Offshore wind farm, Onshore Power from Shore and Battery energy storage system (BESS).


• Preparation Key SLD, Protection single line diagram, equipment arrangement plan and section.


• Design calculations for equipment sizing, earthing calculation, cable sizing, cable tray sizing, lighting calculation, lightning calculation


• Layout engineering for equipment arrangement, cabling, earthing, lighting and lightning protections.


• Prepare equipment datasheet, specifications, technical bid evaluation, manufacturer documents review and approval for all equipment used in below HV system:

• Prepare equipment BOM, cable schedule, Interconnection diagram and termination schedule for complete HV system


• Coordinate with substation automation system / SCADA system for interface engineering activities, Coordination with civil, structural, supply chain, commercial, project management, and manufacturing, testing and site execution teams. Estimate effort for engineering, testing and commissioning


• Prepare Engineering Schedule in line with agreed document deliverable list, matching engineering portion of project schedule.


• Travelling to customer and vendor locations to support engineering, manufacturing and FAT activities.

Qualifications for the role

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.


• Minimum 10 to 15 years of relevant experience for Project Engineering


• Worked as Project Engineer in at least 4 to 6 large size projects in HV system.


• Onshore/Offshore -substation experience will be preferred. Minimum 1 to 2 years experince on site execution is preferred.


• Pre-Bid Engineering, Bid & Proposal exposure is an added advantage.


• Proficiency in using design tools like relay selections, equipment sizing, earthing, lighting calculation tools etc.,


• Basic Knowledge of power system study and network modelling preferred


• Basic knowledge on communication archtecture, IEC 61850, relay selections (ABB/Hitachi/GE/SEL) is preferred.


• Understanding the various International Standard/ statutory requirements like IEEE/IEC/ANSI
