Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior Principal Geotechnical Engineer to lead complex seismic geotechnical projects within Ground Engineering & Tunnelling. You will guide teams in advanced numerical modelling and soil-structure interaction, delivering high-quality client-ready reports.

Ideal candidates have 20+ years international experience, Chartered status (advantageous), and a strong background in FLAC/PLAXIS and related tools. This role offers hybrid work and relocation support.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree; MSc or PhD preferred.
• International geotechnical experience 20+ years with seismic design.
• Experience leading numerical modelling teams with advanced software.
• Understanding of constitutive soil models and calibration.
• Experience validating geotechnical numerical analyses.

Job description

Overview

We are looking for a staff who will take on Senior Principal Geotechnical Engineer role in our Ground Engineering & Tunnelling business. We are looking for staff who have the leadership and technical capabilities to drive complex geotechnical projects involving seismic engineering, and support AtkinsRéalis' colleagues to increase their understanding about advanced geotechnical principles.

Your role

• A good academic background with an engineering degree and ideally an MSc or PhD in a subject and holding Chartered status will be an advantage.
• International experience of 20+ years in geotechnical analysis and design experience in seismic geotechnical analysis and design including seismic design for shallow and deep foundations, soil-structure interaction, seismic deformational analyses, seismic response of dams and embankments, liquefaction assessment and ground improvement.
• Experience in leading numerical modelling teams with advanced numerical modelling software (e.g., FLAC / FLAC3D, PLAXIS 2D / 3D etc) and analysing results.
• Detailed understanding of advanced constitutive soil models, parameter selection for such models, soil-structure interaction and experience of numerical modelling software in addition to standard geotechnical software.
• Experience in validation of geotechnical numerical analysis and numerical model calibration.
• Experience in managing the process of geotechnical numerical analysis within an interdisciplinary project environment.
• Capability to drive digital innovation and further AtkinsRéalis' capability in advanced geotechnical analysis and design.
• Excellent communication skills and confidence to liaise with clients and engineers from other disciplines.
• Excellent report writing skills with the ability to manage the delivery of exemplary written documents and review the work of colleagues.
