Job summary

Arus Info in Bengaluru is seeking a Senior PostgreSQL DBA with deep hands-on expertise to manage large-scale production databases on Linux, ensure high availability, and drive performance improvements.

The successful candidate will lead database operations, implement backups and DR plans, optimize queries, and mentor junior DBAs while coordinating with DevOps, cloud, and application teams. This role requires willingness to work from the Bangalore office and participate in rotation shifts.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on experience as a PostgreSQL DBA.
• Strong expertise in PostgreSQL architecture, SQL, and database internals.
• Core end to end Postgres
• Excellent hands-on experience with Linux/Unix administration.
• Strong understanding of: Indexing strategies; Query execution plans; Vacuum / Autovacuum tuning; Replication (Streaming & Logical); High Availability and Failover concepts.
• Proven experience managing production database environments.
• Independent shell scripting for Automation without enterprise tools.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Scripting and automation using Shell or Python.
• Experience handling performance bottlenecks and critical database incidents.
• Ability to lead technical discussions and mentor junior team members.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, administer, and maintain PostgreSQL databases on Linux/Unix platforms.
• Manage and support large-scale production PostgreSQL environments with high availability requirements.
• Perform advanced database monitoring, query optimization, and performance tuning.
• Design and optimize complex SQL queries, functions, procedures, schemas, and views.
• Implement and manage backup, restore, disaster recovery, and data retention strategies.
• Manage database security, user access, roles, and privileges.
• Perform PostgreSQL patching, upgrades, migrations, and capacity planning activities.
• Troubleshoot critical production issues and lead incident resolution efforts.
• Collaborate with application, infrastructure, cloud, and DevOps teams for deployment and operational support.
• Mentor junior DBAs, conduct technical reviews, and provide technical leadership.
• Define and contribute to DBA standards, automation initiatives, documentation, and best practices.
• Participate in shift-based support and ensure SLA adherence.
• Support and contribute to building/enhancing the organizations DBA capability and practice.
