Qualifications

• 7–15 years of experience in product development or R&D in functional foods, plant proteins, or nutraceuticals.
• Advanced degrees in relevant food science/tech fields; PhD preferred.
• Experience delivering products from concept through trials to commercialization.
• Strong formulation science and ingredient functionality knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of new ingredient solutions using malt extracts, hydrolysed proteins, chicory fibers, and functional food powders.
• Design and develop nutritional formulations and ingredient systems for various food and nutrition applications.
• Develop high-protein and high-fiber ingredient solutions for food, nutraceutical, and feed industries.
• Plan laboratory, pilot, and plant trials; scale-up with manufacturing teams.
• Collaborate with commercial teams through technical presentations and demonstrations.
• Maintain documentation and track milestones; build internal knowledge repositories.
• Identify opportunities to improve ingredient functionality and process efficiency.

Role Overview

The Manager – New Product Development (NPD) will be responsible for leading product innovation and development initiatives focused on functional food ingredients and nutritional formulations.

The role will focus on developing commercially viable ingredient solutions using malt-based ingredients, plant proteins, chicory-derived fibers, and nutritional powders, targeting applications in nutraceuticals, functional foods, beverage powders, bakery, and animal nutrition.

The position requires a professional who can bridge scientific research, ingredient formulation, and plant-level execution, ensuring successful translation of product concepts into scalable commercial solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Product Development & Innovation

• Lead development of new ingredient solutions using malt extracts, hydrolysed proteins, chicory fibers, and functional food powders
• Design and develop nutritional formulations and ingredient systems for various food and nutrition applications
• Develop high-protein and high-fiber ingredient solutions for food, nutraceutical, and feed industries
• Identify opportunities to expand the company’s ingredient portfolio through new product innovation

Research & Technical Development

• Conduct research on ingredient functionality, solubility, texture, taste profile, nutritional value, and shelf stability
• Develop and validate product prototypes for commercial applications
• Conduct ingredient performance evaluation and formulation optimization
• Address technical challenges through structured experimentation and scientific analysis

Trials, Testing & Commercial Scale-Up

• Plan and execute laboratory trials, pilot trials, and plant trials at company facilities
• Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure successful process scale-up and production feasibility
• Optimize processing parameters and formulations through data-driven experimentation
• Ensure new products meet quality, cost, and manufacturing efficiency requirements

Customer Collaboration & Technical Support

• Support commercial teams through technical presentations, product demonstrations, and sample development
• Translate customer requirements into product development opportunities
• Participate in customer discussions to provide technical insights and application guidance

Project Management & Documentation

• Maintain structured documentation for development projects, trials, formulations, and results
• Track project timelines and development milestones
• Build internal knowledge repositories to support future product innovation

Continuous Improvement & Process Optimization

• Identify opportunities for improving ingredient functionality and process efficiency
• Apply structured methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma to improve product development cycles
• Explore value creation from existing ingredient streams and by-products

Candidate Profile

Education

Master’s Degree in:

• Food Technology
• Food Science
• Nutrition
• Biotechnology
• Ingredient Technology or related disciplines

A PhD in Food Science or Ingredient Technology will be considered an advantage.

Experience

7–15 years of experience in product development or R&D within industries such as:

• Functional food ingredients
• Plant proteins
• Dietary fibers / chicory products
• Nutraceuticals
• Bakery ingredients
• Beverage powders
• Ingredient manufacturing

Candidates should demonstrate experience in developing products from concept through trials to commercialization.
