Job summary

Persistent Systems Limited is seeking a Senior Firewall/Network Security Software Engineer in Pune with 8+ years of C/C++ experience on Linux or embedded platforms. The role centers on designing NGFW and cybersecurity solutions, including high-performance packet processing, security features, and scalable, secure architectures.

You will design, implement, and optimize control-plane and data-plane components, with opportunities to mentor engineers and influence product direction in a hybrid work

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on C/C++ systems programming on Linux or embedded platforms.
• Strong knowledge of L3–L7 networking protocols and security architectures.
• Experience in data-plane development and high-performance packet processing.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop control-plane and data-plane components for NGFW platforms.
• Build high-performance packet processing and traffic management systems.
• Develop management interfaces including CLI, APIs, SSH, logging and telemetry.
• Implement SSL/TLS, IPSec, SAML, PKI and certificate lifecycle management.
• Develop DPI, IPS, malware protection, URL filtering, and content categorization.
• Architect scalable, secure, highly available solutions with clustering and HA.
• Troubleshoot networking/security issues using GDB, Wireshark and Valgrind.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on architecture, security and remediation.

The role focuses on designing and developing next-generation firewall (NGFW) and cybersecurity solutions, including high-performance packet processing, network security, authentication systems, and advanced threat protection. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of networking protocols, security architectures, and scalable system design.

WhatYou'llDo:

• Design and develop control-plane and data-plane components for next-generation Firewall (NGFW) platforms across Layers 3–7.
• Build high-performance packet processing and traffic management systems using multi-core architectures such as DPDK and ODP.
• Develop and maintain management interfaces including CLI, APIs, SSH access, logging, diagnostics, and telemetry frameworks.
• Implement and enhance security technologies including SSL/TLS, IPSec, SAML, PKI, and certificate lifecycle management.
• Develop cybersecurity features such as Deep Packet Inspection (DPI), Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), malware protection, URL filtering, and content categorization.
• Architect scalable, secure, and highly available solutions with clustering, HA, licensing, and secure coding best practices.
• Optimize system performance and troubleshoot complex networking and security issues using tools such as GDB, Wireshark, and Valgrind.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams on architecture, security, product enhancements, and vulnerability remediation.

ExpertiseYou'llBring:

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in C/C++ systems programming on Linux or embedded platforms.
• Strong understanding of networking protocols across L3-L7, including TCP/IP, routing, switching, SSL/TLS, and IPSec.
• Extensive experience in data-plane development and packet processing optimization.
• Deep knowledge of Linux internals, multithreading, concurrency, and high-performance application development.
• Experience developing CLI tools, APIs, telemetry solutions, logging frameworks, and SSH-based management interfaces.
• Strong understanding of security architecture, authentication mechanisms, PKI, and certificate management.
• Hands-on experience with Firewall, NGFW, DPI, IPS, malware protection, and web/content filtering technologies.
• Excellent debugging, troubleshooting, and performance tuning skills.
• Proven ability to design scalable systems and provide technical leadership.
• Expert-level C/C++ programming and systems development expertise.
• Deep understanding of cybersecurity and firewall technologies.
• Strong experience with packet processing frameworks such as DPDK/ODP.
• Advanced knowledge of Linux and embedded operating systems.
• Expertise in network security protocols, authentication, and encryption technologies.
