Qualifications

  • Experience in industrial braking systems preferred and NPD involvement.
  • Proficient in brake sizing and torque calculations, thermal and stress analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and DFMEA.
  • Hands-on 3D CAD design, manufacturing drawings, and PLM/ERP exposure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end design from concept through validation across project lifecycles.
  • Perform DFMEA and risk assessments; prepare technical reports and drawings.
  • Ensure compliance with DIN, ISO, FEM, OSHA, CE standards and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and testing teams.
  • Travel within India for technical discussions and field support.

Job Description for the Position of Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Industrial Braking systems, Location - chennai
1. Qualification & Experience
  • Bachelors / master’s degree with 13 to 15 years of experience in mechanical design, product development, engineering calculations, and validation of industrial brakes, ensuring compliance with applicable international standards and customer requirements. Candidate from Industrial braking system will be preferred.
  • Experience in New Product Development (NPD), product customization, and design optimization
  • Strong experience in brake sizing, braking torque calculations, thermal calculations, stress analysis, selection of friction materials, spring-applied systems.
  • Good knowledge of material selection, heat treatment processes, surface engineering techniques, corrosion protection methods, and wear-resistant coatings.
  • Working knowledge of FEA and design validation techniques.
  • Good understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis,
  • Experience in engineering calculations and design validation.
  • Hands-on experience in 3D CAD modeling, assembly design, and manufacturing drawings.
  • Experience collaborating with manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and testing teams throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with customers, visitors, co‑workers, management, suppliers, contractors, and regulatory inspectors.
2. Responsibilities
  • End to End design from Concept development, design development and verification, validation across the entire project life cycle, ensuring task completion and budget management.
  • Contributing to all phases of R&D project life cycle as technical resource or as technical lead. The role contributes to the development of solutions, subsystems for the braking systems and leads research and development evaluations, designing and providing recommendations for stakeholders.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable standards such as DIN, ISO, FEM, OSHA, CE, and other industry requirements
  • Perform Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and risk assessments
  • Leads or completes technical reports, design calculations, product modelling, manufacturing drawings, product manuals, parts lists, and other necessary technical documentation for the project, by engaging with other experts and project resources with high quality and in timely manner.
  • Continuously seeks new innovations and ideas for the products and processes within the Dellner Wind Solutions portfolio, by researching and developing solutions and technologies leading to full commercialization.
  • Coordinate with purchasing, manufacturing, and suppliers to ensure a technically accurate and timely completion of new product designs and existing design improvements.
  • Highly organized and able to multitask and prioritize various activities to ensure timely and accurate compliance with schedule and budget requirements.
  • Supporting sales during RFQ process and ensuring sufficient internal product specification for establishing product costing.
  • Role may also involve travelling on a as required basis to customer facility, across India for technical discussions, troubleshooting with technicians etc
3. Methods & Processes
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD package involving part modelling of castings, assembly modelling, sheet metal modelling, routing and detailing.
  • Should independently be able to create component level manufacturing drawing, GA drawings for sub and main assembly as per appropriate standards, involving application of appropriate tolerances, surface finish and treatment and drafting standards.
  • Should have hands on experience in PLM, ERP Systems and in MS office applications.
  • Should have experience working in an ISO 9001 certified company.
  • Follow company’s procedures and processes of engineering design & project execution.
  • Knowledge / Experience in carrying out analysis using FEA tools such as Ansys, SolidWorks Simulation, Abaqus or similar will be an added advantage
  • Candidates with prior experience in organizations manufacturing or designing Industrial Brakes, Motion Control Systems, Material Handling Equipment, or Heavy Engineering Products will be highly preferred.
4. Team interaction
  • Must be a strong team player.
  • Must have strong communication skills to interact with interdepartmental team members, customers, sub-suppliers across geographies.
  • Must be able to work independently towards execution of the projects with minimal support.
