Job Description
Summary

The Senior Manager – CBTC is a pivotal leadership role within the railway signalling division, responsible for driving the strategic, technical, and operational success of Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) systems across metro and urban rail networks. With 18–25 years of progressive experience in metro signalling, this role demands deep expertise in CBTC system architecture, safety-critical design, and integration across complex rail ecosystems. The incumbent will lead end-to-end CBTC project lifecycles—from concept and design to deployment, commissioning, and handover—ensuring compliance with international safety standards (e.g., EN 50128, ISO 21449, SIL 4), RAMS principles, and regulatory authority requirements. The role involves managing cross‑functional teams, leading vendor and OEM coordination, and serving as the primary technical authority during safety case development, testing, and trial operations. Additionally, the Senior Manager will play a key role in business development, contributing to tender submissions and technical proposals, while mentoring senior engineering talent to build sustainable technical leadership within the organization. This position is critical to advancing the safety, efficiency, and scalability of next‑generation automated rail systems.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic, technical, and managerial leadership for all CBTC signalling projects across the portfolio.
  • Lead the end‑to‑end design, development, integration, and deployment of CBTC systems, ensuring alignment with project scope, safety standards, and performance targets.
  • Oversee system integration across key interfaces: CBTC with rolling stock (train control systems), platform screen doors (PSD), Operations Control Centre (OCC), and trackside infrastructure.
  • Manage and coordinate with OEMs, system integrators, and third‑party vendors to ensure timely delivery, quality compliance, and technical alignment.
  • Champion the development and submission of safety cases, including hazard analysis, risk assessment, and verification/validation documentation for regulatory approval (e.g., by national rail authorities or certification bodies).
  • Lead and supervise all phases of testing, commissioning, and trial runs, ensuring robust system performance and readiness for commercial operations.
  • Serve as the primary technical advisor during system acceptance, handover, and post‑implementation support.
  • Contribute to business development initiatives by providing technical inputs for tenders, proposals, and client presentations.
  • Mentor and develop senior engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Engage with clients, regulatory authorities, and industry stakeholders to ensure project alignment with strategic objectives and compliance requirements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Railway Signalling, or a closely related field; professional certification in railway signalling or safety (e.g., CIE, INCOSE, or equivalent) is highly advantageous.
  • 18–25 years of progressive experience in metro signalling, with a minimum of 10 years dedicated to CBTC system design, deployment, and integration.
  • Proven track record in leading large‑scale, complex CBTC projects from concept to commissioning in urban rail or metro environments.
  • Deep technical expertise in CBTC system architecture, including ATP/ATO functions, wireless communication (e.g., IEEE 802.11p, LTE‑M), trackside equipment, and train‑to‑ground data links.
  • Extensive knowledge of system safety standards (SIL 4), RAMS principles, and lifecycle management processes.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and defending safety cases, including compliance with EN 50128, EN 50129, and ISO 21449.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills with experience engaging with clients, regulatory bodies, and senior executives.
  • Exceptional project management abilities with proficiency in managing multidisciplinary teams, timelines, budgets, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ability to provide expert guidance during system testing, trial operations, and acceptance processes.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a proven ability to translate complex technical concepts for non‑technical audiences.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for project oversight, client engagements, and vendor coordination.
