Job summary

BTL India Private Ltd is seeking a Hardware Design Engineer in Bengaluru to drive end-to-end hardware development from requirements to verification. The role focuses on architecture, schematic capture, BOM management, and subsystem integration.

You will conduct board-level testing, participate in pre-compliance activities, and work closely with firmware, mechanical, procurement, and manufacturing teams to ensure timely delivery and quality.

Qualifications

  • BE/Btech/ME/Mtech in Electrical and Electronics or Power Electronics Engineering or equivalent.
  • 4 to 6 years of hardware design and development experience.

Responsibilities

  • Understand system/product requirements and derive hardware specs.
  • Lead end-to-end hardware concept studies, prototyping, and feasibility assessments.
  • Design hardware architecture, schematic capture, BOM management, and component selection.
  • Drive PCB layout reviews and system integration of subsystems, cables, and enclosures.
  • Apply DFx, DFMEA, risk mitigation, and maintain hardware design documentation.
  • Perform hardware verification, testing at circuit/module/product levels.
  • Plan pre-compliance testing for EMI/EMC and electrical safety standards.
  • Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, procurement, and manufacturing teams.

Job description

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As part of the New Product Development (NPD) team, the candidate should be able to perform the following duties, but they are not limited to the following:

Requirement detailing
  • Responsible for understanding the system/product requirements
  • Derive hardware requirement specifications & Hardware interface specifications for software
Hardware System / Subsystem Engineering
  • Conceptualization & Prototyping: Lead end-to-end conceptual studies and feasibility assessments by designing, building, and troubleshooting module- and system-level prototypes.
  • Detailed Design & Simulation: Hardware architecture development, execute core schematic capture, perform circuit simulations, conduct worst-case calculations, select components, and manage Bills of Materials (BOM).
  • PCB & System Integration: Conduct rigorous PCB layout reviews and drive the physical integration of electronic subsystems, cable harnesses, and connectors into mechanical enclosures.
  • Design Excellence (DFx): Apply DFM, DFA, and DFT principles throughout the product development lifecycle to ensure high yields and quality.
  • Risk & Quality Management: Facilitate Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), identify technical risks, formulate mitigation plans, and compile complete hardware design documentation.
Design Qualification & Technical Resolution
  • Hardware Verification & Testing: Author comprehensive hardware test plans and execute hands-on verification at the circuit, module, and product levels to validate circuit design integrity and overall system performance.
  • Pre-Compliance & Regulatory Testing: Plan and execute pre-compliance testing for EMI/EMC and electrical safety standards to ensure readiness for formal medical certification.
  • Issue Resolution & Debugging: Systematically analyze, troubleshoot, and drive the root-cause closure of identified technical bugs and design anomalies.
Program Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Project Execution & Timelines: Partner closely with the Project Manager and Hardware Lead during planning phases to ensure high-quality hardware deliverables are met within agreed timelines.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate seamlessly with firmware/software, mechanical, procurement, and manufacturing teams to drive cohesive end-to-end product development.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION:
  • BE/Btech/ME/Mtech in Electrical and Electronics / Power electronics Engineering or equivalent
  • 4 to 6 Years of experience in working with Hardware design & development
TECHNICAL COMPETENCY:
  • Microcontroller & Processor Architecture: Deep expertise in hardware design using Microcontrollers/Microprocessors, including a strong understanding of their internal architecture, peripheral requirements, and power/clock tree design.
  • Power Electronics & Motor Control: Proven experience in designing, analyzing, and testing power electronic converters (DC-DC) and DC motor drives.
  • Analog & Signal Conditioning: Hands-on experience with analog circuit design, including high precision Op-Amp topologies, signal conditioning, and ADC/DAC interfacing.
  • Embedded Interfaces & Protocols: Proficiency in hardware-software (HW-SW) interface definition and deep familiarity with communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, RS232, RS485).
  • EDA & Simulation Tools: High proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer (or similar EDA software), alongside circuit simulation tools (e.g., SPICE).
  • Test & Measurement Equipment: Advanced hands-on skills with standard hardware lab instruments, including Oscilloscopes, DMMs, Programmable Power Supplies, Signal Generators & LCR Meters.

ADDITIONAL COMPETENCY/EXPERIENCE
  • Understanding and working knowledge of medical standards IEC60601-1
  • Awareness of EMI/EMC tests and design for its compliance.
