Job summary

Perfetti Van Melle in India seeks a Senior Automation Engineer to maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC, HMI, SCADA across production and utility equipment. You will drive reliability through RCA and preventive actions, update control logic, and support a busy shift maintenance team during critical breakdowns.

Qualifications

• Hands-on expertise on PLC, HMI, SCADA, VFDs and industrial communication protocols.
• Strong trouble shooting skills with PLCs (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi).
• Knowledge of sensors, actuators, instrumentation and electrical drawings.
• Ability to conceptualize mechanization/automation and build execution plans.
• Expertise in project execution and technical documentation (drawings, P&ID, SLDs).
• Strong networking with Automation Solution Providers & OEMs.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC, HMI, SCADA across production and utility equipment.
• Build reliability through RCA and execute corrective & preventive actions on breakdowns.
• Maintain and update PLC programs, HMI screens, control logic, and configurations.
• Support shift maintenance during critical breakdowns.
• Develop preventive maintenance plans for automation systems.
• Ensure availability of critical automation spares and proper inventory.
• Maintain automation maintenance records and equipment history.
• Perform advanced fault-finding and optimization of PLC programs (Siemens, Rockwell, Mitsubishi).
• Manage servo drives, motors, and VFDs; parameterize as needed.
• Read electrical drawings and calibrate/repair field instrumentation.
• Identify Low-Cost Automation opportunities to reduce manual intervention.
• Support installation, commissioning, testing, and validation of new machines.
• Coordinate technically with OEMs, system integrators and vendors.
• Support machine upgrades and integration of new equipment.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC, HMI, SCADA, and other industrial automation systems installed across production and utility equipment.
• Build reliability through diagnosis, RCA & execute adequate corrective & preventive actions on repeated breakdowns.
• Maintain and update PLC programs, HMI screens, control logic, and system configurations as per approved procedures.
• Supporting shift maintenance team during critical breakdowns.

Preventive & Predictive Maintenance:

• Develop and execute preventive maintenance plans for automation systems and control panels.
• Ensure availability of critical automation spares and maintain proper inventory of PLC modules, sensors, drives, and other components.
• Maintain automation maintenance records, breakdown reports, and equipment history.
• Programming & troubleshooting: Perform advanced fault-finding, modification, and optimization of PLC programs (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Allen-Bradley, or Mitsubishi) and HMI/SCADA configurations.
• Motion Control Systems: Manage, parameterize, and troubleshoot high-performance Servo drives, motors, and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
• Electrical & Instrumentation Troubleshooting: Read complex electrical drawings and schematics to safely trace, calibrate, and repair field instrumentation, sensors, control panels, actuators, switchgear, and safety circuits.
• Low-Cost Automation (LCA): Identify bottleneck areas across production lines and conceptualize, design, and deploy Low-Cost Automation strategies to reduce manual intervention, boost cycle times, and optimize energy efficiency.
• Projects: Support the installation, commissioning, testing, and validation of new machines.
• Technical Coordination: with OEMs, system integrators, and vendors for technical support, upgrades, and project execution.
• Support machine upgrades, line modifications, and integration of new equipment with existing control systems.

OUR PERFECT CANDIDATE

Qualifications: Engineering Graduation (BE/B. Tech) in Mechatronics/ Electrical / Instrumentation from a Tier 1 & 2 College.

*Candidates with an engineering degree from part-time or distance learning mode are not to be considered for this position

Knowledge/Skills:

• Hands-on expertise on PLC, HMI, SCADA, VFDs, Servo drives, and industrial communication protocols.
• Strong trouble shooting skills with PLCs (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, or equivalent platforms)
• Knowledge of sensors, actuators, instrumentation, control panels, and electrical drawings.
• Ability to conceptualize mechanization/automation of manual operation & building execution plan
• Expertise in project execution & technical documentation (drawing, P&ID, flow charts, SLDs)
• Strong in building networking with Automation Solution Providers & OEM

Experience:

• 6~10 years’ experience in Plant Engineering with Expertise in Automation
• Hands-on experience in Maintenance Or Projects
