Role Description
Working within our Design & Engineering teams, you will create some of the world’s most iconic and ground‑breaking structures and spaces that transform the world around us, from making journeys easier to opening up public places that bring people together.
The role sits within our Resilience Global Business Area, focusing on protecting our natural environment and water resources while powering the world for future generations.
Role Accountabilities
- The individual should have good experience in Transmission Line designs (400 kV and above).
- Experience resolving key issues and handling execution challenges of Transmission Lines and their foundations, including civil erection works of 400 kV and above.
- Depth and breadth of experience in power delivery facilities such as overhead and underground transmission distribution, renewable power integration, Smart Grid, and related areas.
- Structural analysis and design of lattice towers and poles (steel, wood); plan & profile drawings, conductor sag and tension analysis; developing design criteria for transmission line design; creating bill of materials, engineering estimate, and quality control reviews.
- Provide technical leadership, direction, and support to the design team.
- Plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and effectively monitor all work activities.
- Participate in regular meetings and correspond with clients.
- Prepare detailed engineering and lead the engineering effort for the project, providing technical support.
- Manage project tasks and responsibilities at agreed budget, quality, and timeframe targets.
- Deliver fully documented designs to meet client objectives and Arcadis’ quality system requirements.
- Identify gaps and develop the technical competency of the team, ensuring the application of relevant international standards and engineering knowledge in various projects.
- Conduct internal reviews and quality checks of engineering drawings and design calculations to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Lead interdisciplinary coordination as required for the project.
- Understand scope changes when they arise.
- Record man‑hour charges accurately into weekly timesheets and ensure the correctness of project and non‑project man‑hour charges.
- Proactively manage projects, taking responsibility for resource allocation, quality assurance, and client feedback.
- Identify opportunities and drive implementation of re‑engineering strategies to maximize profitability of design components.
- Seek new opportunities, documenting scope, schedule, budget, and exclusions.
- Liaise with Arcadis lead office representatives and other consultants as appropriate.
- Gain experience and proficiency in Arcadi’s systems and procedures.
- Be familiar with and compliant with health and safety regulations and guidelines.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as relevant to the role from time to time.
Qualifications and Experience
- At least 7 years of experience in Overhead Line design, preferably in a consulting environment.
- Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.
- Consulting experience in OHL in the US, UK, or Australia region.
- Exposure to design codes and standards of National Grid UK and relevant Euro codes and Australian codes for transmission line designs.
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent mathematical skills applied in engineering calculations.
- Organizational skills and a proactive approach to project management.
- Active commitment to developing technical knowledge and emerging technologies through regular training.
- Experience in PLS CADD, PLS TOWER, PLS POLE, STAAD Pro, TEDDS, or other similar software tools.
