Job summary

WSP India is seeking an Overhead Line Principal Engineer to design transmission line towers and foundations for voltages from 11kV to 400kV. You will prepare, review, and approve design documents and coordinate with internal and external teams.

The ideal candidate has 12+ years of civil/structural or electrical engineering experience, with UK project exposure and proficiency in PLS Tower, PLS CADD, and PLS Pole. You will lead design efforts, review supplier drawings, and support project delivery.

Qualifications

• Proven experience designing UK Overhead Line Circuits (towers/poles) up to 400kV.
• Bachelors in civil/structural or electrical engineering with 12+ years’ experience.
• UK projects and standards experience is an added advantage.
• Ability to lead and mentor teams and manage complex design projects.
• Knowledge of applicable engineering standards.

Job description

As a Overhead Line Principal Engineer, you will design of a range of Overhead Line Circuits at voltages ranging from 11kV to 400kV.

Responsibilities

You will

• Preparing, reviewing, and approving of transmission line tower & foundation design including associated documents and accessories
• Preparing engineering documents related to transmission tower and foundation design.
• Designing as per relevant codes and standards
• Optimizing the overall weight of the tower and foundation with respect to tender quantity
• Performing Sag tension calculation and providing the approximate weight of the tower at the tender stage
• Designing of transmission tower, with the use of PLS Tower software for transmission line design, Line design with the use of PLS CADD and Pole design with use of PLS Pole.
• Create all associated Engineering Design calculations and documentation.
• Support the creation of all necessary material bill of quantity schedules.
• Attend site meetings (virtual) and provide ongoing design drawing changes / support as required during project build.
• Reviewing designs produced by suppliers and clients to ensure designs are technically compliant and in line with current legislation and policies.
• Project Coordination:
• Actively coordinates with all other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects.
• Client Focus:
• Responsible for assisting with identification of key client interests and drivers on moderately complex projects and may determine the key clients in some instances
• Communicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on moderately complex projects
• May offer other services to the clients
• Typically provides support to business development or pursuit activities

Qualifications

• Proven experience in the design of UK Overhead Line Circuits (Towers and/or Poles) at any voltage up to 400kV.
• Bachelors in civil/Structural or Electrical Engineering with 12+ years’ Experience (UK Project and UK standards experience is added advantage). Having UK Projects and Standards experience is added advantage.
• Leading and mentoring teams, independently managing projects, delivering complex design solutions, reviewing and approving designs, and ensuring projects are completed on schedule with high quality and within budget.
• Knowledge of all applicable engineering standards.
• The ability to design with PLS- CADD, PLS Tower, PLS POLE or similar.
