Job summary

Job description

Responsibilities

• Preparing, reviewing, and approving transmission line tower and foundation design including associated documents and accessories.
• Preparing engineering documents related to transmission tower and foundation design.
• Designing as per relevant codes and standards.
• Optimizing the overall weight of the tower and foundation with respect to tender quantity.
• Performing sag-tension calculations and providing the approximate weight of the tower at the tender stage.
• Designing transmission towers using PLS Tower; line design with PLS CADD; pole design with PLS Pole.
• Creating all associated engineering design calculations and documentation.
• Supporting the creation of material bill of quantities schedules.
• Attending site meetings (virtual) and providing ongoing design drawing changes and support during project build.
• Reviewing designs produced by suppliers and clients to ensure technical compliance with current legislation and policies.
• Project coordination: actively coordinating with internal and external team members on moderately complex projects.
• Client focus: assisting with identification of key client interests and drivers on moderately complex projects and communicating these to the project team.
• May offer additional services to clients and typically provides support to business development or pursuit activities.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in the design of UK Overhead Line Circuits (towers and/or poles) at voltages up to 400 kV.

Bachelor’s in Civil/Structural or Electrical Engineering with 15+ years’ experience; UK project and UK standards experience is an added advantage.

• Leading and mentoring teams, independently managing projects, delivering complex design solutions, reviewing and approving designs, and ensuring projects are completed on schedule with high quality and within budget.
• Achieving business KPIs, strengthening team capability, and ensuring efficient workload management.
• Developing team competency, leading the team effectively, fostering strong internal communication, and resolving people-related issues.
• Knowledge of all applicable engineering standards.

The ability to design with PLS-CADD, PLS Tower, PLS POLE or similar.
