Job description

Denied Operations Division > GNSS-Denied
Domain:

Robotic Systems

What this Role Offers
  • Opportunity to lead the system architecture, integration, verification, and field acceptance of advanced autonomous flight systems.
  • End-to-end technical ownership across R&D algorithms, flight-control firmware, robotics software, embedded systems, and deployment.
  • Hands-on exposure to ground testing, flight testing, failure investigation, and real-world system validation.
  • Collaboration with Navigation, Sensor Fusion, GNC, Vision, Radar, CRPA, Avionics, Cybersecurity, and RF/EMI-EMC teams.
About the Role

The Senior Engineer - Robotic Systems Engineering role is a senior, hands-on position responsible for ensuring that independently developed technologies operate as a coherent, deployable, and field-validated system. The engineer will own system requirements, architecture, interfaces, integration strategy, verification planning, configuration baselines, and system-level technical acceptance.

The role connects specialized R&D, flight-control firmware, software, embedded systems and company-wide technical units, ensuring that independently developed capabilities become reliable, deployable products. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving cross-disciplinary problems and taking complex systems from development to reliable field operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and maintain system requirements, architecture, interfaces, operating concepts, and technical baselines.
  • Translate program objectives into measurable subsystem requirements, verification methods, and acceptance criteria.
  • Maintain relevant compute, timing, latency, bandwidth, power, thermal, and system-performance budgets.
  • Define integration, simulation, bench, HIL, ground test, and flight test strategies with the technical owners.
  • Lead technical reviews, trade studies, failure investigations, and cross-functional issue resolution.
  • Establish requirements to test traceability, approve system-level verification evidence, and release baselines.
  • Coordinate interfaces with Navigation, Sensor Fusion, GNC, Vision, Radar, CRPA, and Flight-Control Firmware teams.
  • Coordinate with Avionics, Cybersecurity, and RF/EMI-EMC units without duplicating their specialist ownership.
  • Own deployment plans, flight-test objectives, known system limitations, and technical acceptance criteria.
  • Mentor Systems Engineers working in Robotics Software, Software Platform, Robotics Integration, and Embedded Software.
  • Communicate technical risks, evidence, decisions, and system status to management and Program Management.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree in Robotics/Mechatronics, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering Design, or Aerospace Engineering
  • 6+ years (Bachelor’s) or 5+ years (Master’s) or 1+ years (PhD) or more years of industrial experience in systems engineering and integration affiliated to aerospace, UAVs, robotics, or complex embedded products; demonstrated architecture ownership and technical depth are more important than a strict year count
  • Demonstrated experience owning a complete system or major subsystem from requirements through integration and field validation
  • Strong understanding of requirements engineering, interface management, verification, configuration control, and technical risk management
  • Strong log analysis, debugging, root-cause investigation, and technical decision-making skills.
  • Strong technical writing, review, mentoring, and stakeholder communication skills
  • Experience in either of the following: vision-aided navigation, radar-aided navigation, GNSS-Denied PNT solutions, or RF-based localization in mobile robots
  • Hands-on experience with industrial machine-vision cameras, IMU/INS, embedded computers, microcontrollers, TOF sensors, and 3D LiDAR
  • Experience working with ArduPilot/PX4, ROS/ROS2, MAVLink, Mission Planner or QGroundControl
  • Experience working on timing and synchronization in embedded systems
  • Application knowledge of Linear Algebra, Probability, and Statistics in robotics
Preferred Qualifications
  • Application knowledge of time-series analysis
  • Technical depth in model-based systems engineering and system identification
  • Working knowledge of antennas, GNSS receivers, and RF spectrum
  • Experience with SIL/HIL simulation, automated regression, flight-test planning, and incident investigation
  • Experience in multi-agent systems and dynamic game theory
  • Experience in V2X, energy optimization, and electronic circuits
  • Familiarity with safety analysis, failure modes, degraded operations, or qualification of airborne/robotic systems
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams in a startup or fast-moving product environment
Additional Considerations for PhD Graduates

Candidates with a PhD may be considered for an enhanced designation or role variant (e.g., Lead Engineer) based on:

  • Depth of thesis/research experience in robotics, UAV autonomy, control systems, state estimation, navigation and planning, or perception
  • Research internships or lab experience involving UAV testing and system integration
  • Ability to take ownership of specific subsystem modules or small projects early in their tenure
  • Strong publication track record (IEEE Transactions, IJJR, Science Robotics, ICRA, IROS, CoRL, CVPR, ECCV, JoFR)
Working Hours
  • Standard working hours are 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM, Monday to Friday
  • Field-testing activities may require early-morning or extended hours, depending on mission requirements
Compensation Range
  • Competitive compensation aligned with industry standards, including performance-based incentives
  • Exact salary ranges will be customised according to experience
