The ideal candidate will have over 4 years of experience in platform and edge engineering, working with technologies like Akamai and AWS, as well as proficiency in Terraform and Python/Go programming. A hybrid approach to work is offered.

Senior Engineer - EDGE

We’re seeking a Senior Engineer - EDGE Platform who will play a pivotal role in shaping and scaling REA’s edge security and content delivery capabilities. This role sits at the intersection of platform engineering, cloud, networking and security, with a strong focus on building resilient, reusable and well-governed edge platform capabilities for teams across REA.

You'll help define and evolve our EDGE platform strategy across CDN, WAF, bot management, DNS and traffic management, while applying platform thinking to create paved‑road solutions that are secure, scalable and simple for product and engineering teams to adopt. You’ll combine deep technical expertise with operational discipline, leveraging automation, observability and incident response practices to improve reliability and customer outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and continuously improve edge platform capabilities across CDN, WAF and DDoS protection using Akamai.
• Build and operate bot management capabilities using Kasada to improve protection against automated abuse while preserving customer experience.
• Create reusable infrastructure and platform patterns using Terraform, with a strong platform thinking mindset that enables self‑service, consistency and guardrails for engineering teams.
• Work across AWS, networking, CDN, DNS and traffic management domains to deliver secure, resilient and high‑performing solutions.
• Partner with product, platform, security and development teams to embed edge security and reliability considerations early in the design process.
• Investigate and troubleshoot complex production issues across edge, network and cloud layers, driving remediation and long‑term prevention.
• Strengthen incident response practices through PagerDuty, operational readiness, runbooks, on‑call improvements and service ownership.
• Take accountability for delivery, technical quality and operational outcomes, with clear ownership of team and platform OKRs.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in platform, network or edge engineering roles, with strong hands‑on delivery in production environments.
• Strong experience with CDN and edge technologies, ideally including Akamai for CDN, WAF and DDoS protection.
• Experience with bot management platforms, ideally Kasada or similar tooling used to mitigate automated abuse.
• Solid experience with AWS and a good understanding of core cloud architecture patterns, networking, DNS, TLS, traffic routing and internet‑facing systems.
• Strong proficiency in Terraform and infrastructure as code, with the ability to design reusable modules, standards and platform abstractions.
• Experience writing production‑quality automation and tooling in Python and/or Go.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues across distributed systems using logs, metrics, tracing and other observability tools.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and influence technical direction.

Bonus Points

• Experience designing internal platform capabilities that improve developer experience and adoption through self‑service patterns.
• Exposure to edge security policy management, rate limiting, API protection or zero‑trust patterns.
• Experience in high‑scale internet platforms where performance, availability and abuse prevention are critical.
• Familiarity with compliance, governance or risk controls in cloud and edge environments.
