Job summary

Akamai's Platform Security Engineering team is seeking a Senior II Software Engineer to help build and secure systems that support Akamai's global network and Linode cloud environments. You will maintain existing software, design and test new features, improve safety and performance, and mentor teammates across the lifecycle.

Collaboration with architecture, quality engineering, service performance and support teams is essential to deliver reliable services for internal users.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Solid commercial experience in Rust, Python, or C++.
• Experience with Linux/Unix internals.
• Frontend development experience using React or JavaScript.

Responsibilities

• Maintain existing software and design, implement, and test new features.
• Improve safety and stability of services; fix problems and reduce risk; write secure code.
• Conceptualize, design and implement solutions.
• Become a Subject Matter Expert and own part of the team's component portfolio.
• Conduct code and design reviews and document work for users and team.
• Coach and mentor team members to develop them across the team.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Platform Security Engineering team, develop systems focused on network safety and security. Collaborate with architecture, quality engineering, service performance, and support teams throughout the software lifecycle to deliver exceptional services for internal users.

As a Senior II Software Engineer, you will be responsible for:

• Maintaining existing software and keeping it compliant as well as designing, implementing and testing new features
• Improving safety, and stability of services; spotting and eliminating problems and risks; writing maintainable and secure code
• Conceptualizing, designing and implementing solutions.
• Becoming a Subject Matter Expert and assuming ownership of a part of team's component portfolio
• Conducting code and design reviews with peers, documenting work for users and team, and guiding efforts toward process enhancements effectively.
• Coaching and mentoring the team members to empower and develop them as individuals and as a cross-functional team

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have 10+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field.
• Have solid commercial experience in one or more of languages like Rust, Python, C++
• Be experienced in working with Linux/Unix internals
• Exhibit expertise in critical thinking and attention to detail while creating security-focused applications optimized for scalability and performance.
• Have considerable experience with frontend application development, using one or more of the languages like React, JavaScript
