Job summary

Black Turtle in Gurugram is seeking a Senior Director of Research to lead and deepen our fundamental equity research efforts. The role integrates macro insights with bottom-up models to generate high-conviction ideas and directly influence portfolio construction.

The candidate will mentor junior analysts, communicate persuasively with Portfolio Managers, and travel with investment teams to client engagements, primarily in Europe.

Position: Senior Director - Research

About the Role

We are seeking a distinguished and proactive Senior Director of Research to lead and deepen our fundamental equity research efforts. This role is central to our investment process, requiring the integration of deep industry knowledge, relative value analysis, and macroeconomic insights to generate high-conviction, actionable investment ideas. The successful candidate will be a thought leader, directly influencing portfolio construction and performance through exceptional research and collaboration with our Portfolio Management teams.

Key Responsibilities

Research & Analysis

• Conduct in-depth primary research on industries and companies, utilizing expert networks, earnings calls, company visits, and industry conferences.
• Develop and maintain sophisticated financial models to forecast company earnings, assess valuation, and model various business scenarios.
• Integrate top-down macroeconomic analysis and broader industry trends into bottom-up security recommendations.
• Produce comprehensive written research reports and investment theses to support stock rankings and portfolio decisions.
• Employ a wide range of valuation methodologies to determine intrinsic value and investment risk.

Investment Partnership & Influence

• Actively participate in daily market meetings and team strategy discussions, contributing a strong, evidence-based point of view.
• Work closely with Portfolio Managers to assist in portfolio construction, sector weighting, and risk management.
• Clearly and persuasively communicate research ideas and recommendations to influence investment decisions across the platform.

Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership

• Build and maintain relationships with company management teams within the covered sector(s).
• Represent the firm at sell-side events, company meetings, and industry conferences.
• Travel within Europe (and potentially beyond) with investment teams to conduct marketing activities and meet with clients and institutional partners.
• Mentor junior analysts and contribute to the continuous enhancement of the research process.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

• Experience: Considerable and proven buy-side equity research experience within an Asset Management firm, with a demonstrable track record of generating alpha.
• Sector Expertise: Deep knowledge and research experience within the Banking sector is required.
• Analytical Rigor: Significant proficiency in financial modeling, financial statement analysis, and valuation. Advanced proficiency in Excel and database management tools.
• Communication: Sophisticated communication and interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to influence Portfolio Managers and senior stakeholders through compelling storytelling and robust analysis.
• Credentials: CFA charter holder, ACA qualified, or a relevant MBA from a leading institution.
