Job summary

Software AG in Chennai seeks a Senior Java Developer on z/OS to design and optimize high-performance Java applications native to z/OS, integrating with legacy and modern systems.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of Java development with 5+ years on IBM z/OS.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science or related field.
• Expertise in JVM tuning on z/OS: heap sizing, GC policies, zAAP/zIIP, WLM.
• Proficiency in JNI, COBOL/C/C++ integration.
• Experience with DB2 for z/OS, JDBC, SQLJ, and tuning performance.
• Hands-on with USS, JCL, TSO/ISPF, LE.

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Java Developer on z/OS (Jopaz Performance) with deep expertise in IBM z/OS mainframe environments. This is not conventional Java development—you will design and optimize high-performance, low-latency Java applications running natively on z/OS, ensuring seamless integration with both modern and legacy enterprise systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize Java applications on IBM z/OS UNIX System Services (USS).
• Perform JVM-level performance tuning, focusing on CPU utilization, memory, and GC optimization.
• Integrate Java with native z/OS components using JNI, C/C++, and LE (Language Environment).
• Implement efficient database access with JDBC, SQLJ, and DB2 for z/OS.
• Collaborate with systems programmers, DBAs, and COBOL/CICS developers to ensure interoperability.
• Analyze SMF records, RMF reports, and WLM metrics to guide system tuning.
• Maintain automation scripts, JCL jobs, and support operational workloads.
• Lead modernization initiatives, enabling hybrid integration between legacy systems and Java-based solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of Java development, with 5+ years on IBM z/OS.
• Expertise in JVM tuning on z/OS: heap sizing, GC policies, zAAP/zIIP utilization, WLM classification.
• Strong proficiency in JNI, COBOL/C/C++ integration.
• Proven experience with DB2 for z/OS, JDBC, SQLJ, and database performance tuning.
• Hands-on expertise with USS, JCL, TSO/ISPF, LE.
• Familiarity with SMF, RMF, SDSF, and tools like IBM OMEGAMON, BMC MainView.
