We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Zos System Programmer to manage, maintain, and optimize our critical z/OS mainframe environment. This role involves comprehensive system programming, including upgrades, performance management, network configuration, and troubleshooting, ensuring the stability and efficiency of our core systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive z/OS system programming, covering work, user, journal, and performance management.
- Lead and execute z/OS upgrades and ongoing maintenance activities.
- Configure and customize base z/OS components, including JES2.
- Troubleshoot and resolve high-priority and performance-related issues within the z/OS environment.
- Utilize SMP/E for installing, upgrading, customizing, and maintaining z/OS and related IBM/ISV products.
- Implement and maintain secure network configurations, including TCPIP / VTAM and associated network products.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts using REXX, Assembler, and JCL.
- Administer VTAM/TCPIP networks and related parameters.
- Apply planned, Hiper, and Red Alert maintenance, as well as product PTFs.
- Implement security PTFs to ensure system integrity.
- Maintain ACS routines and storage management strategies.
- Proactively monitor z/OS and related software to prevent issues and maximize performance.
- Collaborate with and assist team members in problem-solving and implementing innovative improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- A minimum of 10 years of hands‑on z/OS system programming experience, including work, user, journal, and performance management.
- Demonstrated strong knowledge in z/OS upgrade and maintenance procedures.
- Extensive experience in configuring and customizing base components, particularly JES2.
- Proven experience operating in a multiple CPU mainframe environment.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting complex high-priority and performance issues within a z/OS environment.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience with SMP/E.
- Good understanding of Workload Manager (WLM), Resource Measurement Facility (RMF), Hardware Configuration Definition (HCD), and various ISV products.
- Experience in the implementation of secure network protocols and maintenance of TCPIP / VTAM and related network products.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as REXX, Assembler, and JCL.
- Familiarity with VTAM/TCPIP network administration.
- Experience with modern z/OS tools like ZOSMF and/or ZOWE.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with end-to-end installation, upgrade, customization, and maintenance of z/OS operating system and related IBM/ISV products through SMPE/non‑SMPE processes.
- Ability to apply various types of maintenance (planned, Hiper, Red Alert) and product PTFs.
- Experience in developing and maintaining REXX and Assembler scripts for system automation.
- Knowledge of maintaining ACS routines and storage management strategies.
- Proactive monitoring and performance tuning expertise for z/OS and associated software.
