Job Description
We are looking to hire a talented Sr. mechanical design engineer. In this role, you will be required to meet with clients to determine their design requirements, plan and execute the design of mechanical devices, develop and test prototypes, and work closely with the manufacturing teams to ensure that design specifications are met.
To be a successful Sr. mechanical design engineer, you should be mathematically and mechanically minded and have strong analytical and critical thinking abilities. A top-notch Sr. mechanical design engineer should possess detailed knowledge of engineering and design principles and be able to find creative solutions to technical problems.
Mechanical Design Engineer Responsibilities:
- Mechanical & Structural Design: design and packaging of battery modules, enclosures, and mounting systems.
- Cell Integration: Select and arrange cylindrical or prismatic cell configurations to meet exact energy and power density targets.
- Thermal Management: Design cooling solutions (e.g., air chiller (HVAC), liquid cooling, phase-change materials) to ensure optimal battery temperature during fast-charging cycles.
- Electrical Integration: Collaborate with electrical teams to design busbars, routing, and seamlessly integrate the BMS, sensors, and wiring harnesses.
- Simulation & Analysis: Conduct structural, vibration, and thermal (FEA/CFD) analyses to guarantee pack reliability under real-world operating conditions.
- Manufacturing Transition: Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles, and collaborate with vendors for prototyping and mass production.
- Documentation: Create detailed 3D CAD models (Solid works), 2D technical drawings, tolerance stack-ups, and BOMs
- Use root cause analysis methods such as Pareto chart, Ishikawa, 5 Whys, and FMEA to identify the source of problems
Mechanical Design Engineer Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a mechanical design engineer.
- PE certification is advantageous.
- Proficiency with engineering design programs such as AutoCAD, Solid works, .
- Sound knowledge of design and engineering principles and best practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Attentive to detail and critically minded.
