Job summary

Nokia in India is seeking a DBaaS Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support end-to-end database services in the public cloud. You will collaborate with architects, security teams, and end users to enhance, deploy, and support the database environment within Nokia Digital Office EICS.

The role emphasizes Oracle RAC, Data Guard, RMAN backups, OCI/AWS/Azure/GCP familiarity, automation with Shell and Python, and multi-cloud DevOps practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in IT engineering or equivalent with 10+ years in Oracle databases in production environments.
• Strong experience with OCI Data Guard, RMAN, and Oracle RAC implementations.
• Proficiency in Linux/Unix administration for database servers.
• Experience with Terraform for IaC and cloud automation.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and manage lifecycle of databases.
• Lead performance tuning using AWR, ADDM; troubleshoot complex L3 issues.
• Design and manage Oracle RAC and Data Guard for high availability.
• Handle backups and recovery strategies with RMAN; ensure RPO/RTO compliance.
• Drive automation with Shell and Python; support multi-cloud deployments.

Job Description

DBaaS Subject Matter Expert (SME) will support end-to-end database services in the public cloud. s part of operations, you will collaborate with architects, security teams, and end users to enhance, deploy, and support the database environment.

EICS Public Cloud and Database Services, part of Nokia Digital Office EICS, follows a lifecycle-based operating model that ensures end-to-end accountability across cloud service delivery for internal Nokia customers. Strategic planning and governance set the direction, solutions architecture translates that vision into scalable and secure designs, DevOps automation accelerates consistent delivery, and operations management maintains service reliability — all connected through a continuous feedback loop that drives ongoing improvement and ensures services consistently meet the evolving needs of internal Nokia team.

How You Will Contribute And What You Will Learn

• Perform installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management
• Lead performance tuning and troubleshooting using AWR, ADDM, OEM and ASH, resolving complex L3 issues
• Design, implement, and manage Oracle RAC environments for high availability
• Configure and maintain Oracle Data Guard for HA and DR, including switchover, failover, and DR drills
• Own and execute backup and recovery strategies using RMAN, ensuring compliance with RPO and RTO
• Plan and drive database migrations, upgrades, and consolidation initiatives
• Manage and optimize OCI database services including DB Systems, Exadata, and Autonomous Database
• Ensure database security, compliance, auditing, and adherence to enterprise standards
• Drive automation and operational efficiency using scripting such as Shell and Python
• Exposure to OCI ,AWS, Azure, or GCP with understanding of database services such as RDS, Azure SQL, Cloud SQL, and IaaS deployments
• Handle P1 and P2 incidents, lead RCA, and implement preventive measures
• Act as an L3 SME , providing technical guidance and design inputs
• Collaborate effectively with application, infrastructure, and cloud teams, ensuring strong stakeholder communication and alignment
• Continuously improving process, system and bring in more automation possibilities
• Monitor system health, troubleshooting issues, and perform root cause analysisCollaborate with DevOps, and application teams to support database needs
• Establish best practices for database reliability, scaling, and observability

Key Skills And Experience

Must-Have

• Bachelor's degree in IT engineering or equivalent with 10+ yrs in relevant experience and Expertise in Oracle databases 11g, 12c, 19c, 23AI, 26AI in highly critical production environments
• OCI Core Services & Concepts like DB Systems (VMDB, BMDB ),OCI Data Guard as a Service, Observability & Management, Goldengate, Database Migration to OCI
• Oracle Database Architecture & Internals, Installation, Configuration, Patching & Upgrades
• Backup & Recovery (RMAN)& Performance Tuning & Optimization:
• Strong proficiency in Linux/Unix (e.g., Red Hat, Oracle Linux, Solaris) for database server administration and High Availability, Disaster Recovery
• Deep Security knowledge including Roles , encryption, Vault, Label Security, and Compliance
• Exposure to AWS, Azure, or GCP with understanding of database services such as RDS, Azure SQL, Cloud SQL, and IaaS deployments
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform for automated provisioning and standardization of database environments

Nice-To-Have

• Knowledge of cloud cost optimization and modernization strategies including IaaS to PaaS transformation
• Experience working in multi-cloud or hybrid database environments across on-prem and cloud platforms
• Familiarity with DevOps, SRE practices, and CI/CD integration for database deployments.
• Exposure to other databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL
